Montgomery County task force to combat child exploitation, human trafficking and find missing children

NORRISTOWN — A recently formed Montgomery County task force focusing on human trafficking and child exploitation handled its first case this week and safely returned a 15-year-old county girl who ran away from home, according to authorities.
The girl, who was unharmed, was found within 24 hours in a hotel in Atlantic City and safely returned. It was the collaboration of task force detectives and New Jersey State Police that led to the quick return of the teenager, according to officials.
While officials said no specific details about the girl who ran away can be shared, they highlighted the case to announce the creation of the new Human Trafficking/Child Exploitation Task Force that is a partnership between the Montgomery County Detective Bureau, five police departments and the Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center.

Librarians are assessing the six Dr. Seuss books not to be published

The recent decision to discontinue publishing six Dr. Seuss books has rippled down to local libraries, where issues of ethnic insensitivity and racial stereotypes are being rekindled.
Nationally, some libraries already have decided not to display or promote the six picture books — otherwise cheerful, colorful, rhymable classics — that some find objectionable because of their racial and ethnic depictions.
The Chicago Public Library was among the first to pull from its circulation the six titles singled out by Dr. Seuss Enterprises earlier this month: "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street," "If I Ran the Zoo," "McElligot’s Pool," "On Beyond Zebra!," "Scrambled Eggs Super!," and "The Cat's Quizzer."

Six Dr. Seuss books will be temporarily unavailable at the Chicago Public Library following the announcement from Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. that the books would not be published due to their racist content.
The library said by removing the six books — “If I Ran the Zoo,” “On Beyond Zebra!,” McElligot’s Pool,” “And to Think that I saw It on Mulberry Street,” “The Cat’s Quizzer,” and “Scrambled Eggs Supper!” — they encourage the public to realize what is “relevant and/or common knowledge changes over time,” The Chicago Tribune reported Monday.
