What do the construction of the Empire State Building, Prohibition, the Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, the Holocaust, World War II, Vietnam, the first man in space and Sept. 11 attacks all have in common?
All of these events and many more happened in the last 100 years. They also took place during the life of Pfc. Jim. H. Martin, a WWII veteran who celebrated his 100th birthday April 29.

Did You Know That RCC Has A Terrific Veteran Affairs Program ?

From Jonathan Barnwell
I'm currently the Coordinator of Judicial and Veterans Affairs at Rockland Community College. I was appointed to this position in November 2010. I had wanted to work with veterans since my childhood spent on Army bases, (both parents were US Army, my father for 20 and my mom for 10).
Speaking of my parents, funny thing came to light since I'm involved with Rockland Homes for Heroes, the Supportive Apartment Program for homeless veterans created by John Murphy that is is located on property which was formerly Camp Shanks, the largest port of Embarkation in the world during WWII. Over 1.3 million GIs embarked for Europe to fight the nazi army from D-Day to V-Day

A U.S. Soldiers Tells What It Was Like to Fight the Nazis in an M5 Stuart Tank

OH MY GOD!” thought tanker Joe Cotten. “
We’re shooting machine guns at a Tiger Royal!” It was late December 1944 in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France, near the German border. From inside his M5 Stuart light tank, Cotten had spotted the enemy heavy tank at the bottom of a ridge and had fired at it with his machine gun when he made his realization. The German panzer was stuck on some train lines and had thrown a track. The driver inside was gunning the engine and rocking forward and back, trying to free the behemoth from its trap. Cotten had already fired on a few soldiers escaping the tank, but its crew was obviously still intact.
