>> reporter: out of firefighters on scene, one firefighter suffered a minor injury and will be okay. the arson squad is here looking in to a cause of the fire. the only thing they could tell us at this point that they believe it started on the first florida we're live in brooklyn channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. let's turn to the weather and a part of our area could see that wintery mix overnight. all part of the system that brought blizzard conditions on tornadoes in the nation's mid-section here in our area as we would take a live look outside at the department of sanitation that just issued their first snow alert of the season. bill evans is in the weather center. >> let's take a look at that shall we? we have sunshine at noontime. these are the temperatures on board at this time of the year, so here we are with the cold air and the warm moisture cold air. so we were going to be looking at a mix of rain and sleet. as we go in to the nighttime tonight is when they will take hold. that is north of the county. then here around fairfield as we should say ready around new haven over towards bridge port and fairfield county and westchester and rockland county. the cold air keeps coming out of the north. and then the warm part of this comes to us, which looks like it will make it interesting for the first snow alert and rain and sleet and nevertheless what we're looking at tomorrow morning at 5:00 a.m. is looking at sleet. period of time in rain at 5:00 a.m. on the computer model and long island down the jersey shore with rain. and above i-80, above i-84, the parkway here in connecticut in fairfield county. and it will warm up to the 50s, nothing left over like any ice or anything like that. the temperatures will be around 4:00 a.m. to the north where you see the coldest temperatures, where it will be. and we will talk about that and what to expect for new year's eve. that we are just talking about that this system is ripping through the south of the country's mid-section where they have died since wednesday. illinois and where flooding is the main problem, swept away just east of st. louis. missouri also hit hard by the flooding. just look at this dam in lake st. louis and pouring right over it. tornado outbreak. lauren lister is in dallas with the story. >> tornado on the ground. >> reporter: overnight twisters ripping through arkansas. this after a string of tornadoes blasted through a 40- mile swath of texas this weekend. carving a path as white as a football field. and police saying that at least 11 were killed. >> that's it. that's the tornado. >> reporter: the tornado on saturday night is bringing winds up to 180 miles per hour. >> that is big. >> reporter: descending on to interstate 80 where eight were >> reporter: hundreds of homes were damaged. >> but as far as the roof and that all of this is gone. just grateful that there were likes. >> reporter: in the midwest it's the rain. historically heavy downpours, producing the flash flooding, killing at least 15. and the state of emergency would declare in missouri on sunday after the floodwaters engulfed homes. >> oh my gosh. >> swept away the rvs, shutting down the major highways. >> that's the worst that anyone has seen it. >> reporter: they are claiming the life of five including two children after their cars were swept away. >> it makes us pretty sick to our stomach and that we wish it couldn't have happened, especially the holiday weekend. and ice is covering the roads and the trees. weather is still having a big impact with almost 690 flights canceled across the country today. as authorities here in texas, they surveyed the damage today, could take months to rebuild all that was destroyed. channel 7 eyewitness news texas. >> thank you, lauren. the baby in new jersey that was shot while sitting in a parked car could be released this afternoon. the little boy has been in the hospital since saturday as they flew in to the car while the mother was in the post office. toni yates is live from jeer see city with more. >> and in the meantime the person that inspired the shots are still on the loose now. this baby, their family showed us the injuries that they suffered. bruising their face with the bullet that hit them in the cheek as this happened saturday just before 3:00 in the the baby was in the car and that they were parked when someone nearby began firing that gun. it is not believed that this family was a target, but that did not keep the baby out of harm's way. his father spoke to us. >> we have begun, it is easy. i didn't know. nobody touching them. nobody. now they did release a statement over the weekend condemning the violence, but again no suspects have been captured. for now we're live channel 7 eyewitness news. >> all right, toni, thank you. police in long island are trying to figure out who threw a brick from the highway overpass. two people were traveling in the car below injured in union dale. it smashed through the and front seat passenger. the driver suffered bruising to the right shoulder. the 22-year-old passenger suffered the injury to the left eye and other bruises on her face. a major blow to isis militants today. they have retaken the strategic group, raising the flag over the government buildings, celebrating the city that has been occupied since may. the efforts to right now police have no clue. it may very well be a joke, but no one here at catholic church in clifton is they've become number five on >> this is a catholic parish. don't be so selfish and think of what you're doing to other people as well. >> reporter: parishioners are hurt, but also hopeful that someone will return their baby jesus statue. they can't understand how someone could walk in to a symbolic church display and steal someone sacred. >> the parishioners love the idea, and they put their heart and soul in to this project. >> this year the parishioners pulled their money together and purchased the nativity scene week. before sunday morning services yesterday, someone noticed that the baby was missing. >> that's the thing that you shouldn't be doing. that is baby jesus. >> reporter: the five churches, they have now had their baby jesus statues stolen. they've asked the police for help in getting the statues back and finding the thieves. in a statement they say, "it that this is taking place at this time of the year. more than a prank. we are hoping that the police this. >> sometimes they return these things without any consequences, but at least they would get it back here, right? >> reporter: right now they cannot say if any fact thefts are connected, but the best and the easiest thing to do is to simply return them. in clifton dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. >> newly released video shows the vicious assault and robbery on the man in brooklyn. watch closely as the man is knocked to the ground. about 1:00 on sunday morning. and that is when one of the attackers lifts them up, a basketball legend and star of the globetrotter has died. he played for 24 years, appearing in more than 60,000 games in more than 100 countries. they move and big personality made him a fan favorite in the 60s and the 70s. he died yesterday at the age of 83. >> peyton manning is firing back in a report accusing him of using banned substances. a document accuses the nfl quarterback of using human growth hormones years ago while recovered from a neck injury. abc elizabeth herr is in new york with more. >> reporter: peyton manning says that the report is absolutely not true, accusing of defamation and even explaning that he never met the guy who accused him of doping achievement. >> reporter: the nfl star is furious and fighting back after this documentary made explosive allegations against him. the documentary called the dark side shows charles sly who claims to be a pharmacist at the institute of indianapolis. assisting manning and other pro athletes to get performance enhancing drugs. he is the same institute that helped the super bowl champ rehab after breaking his neck playing for the indianapolis colts in 2011. and claims that he was sent human growth hormone a performance enhancing drug banned from the nfl under his wife's name. >> all the time we'll be sending ashley manning drugs, like the gross hormone all the time everywhere, florida. >> it would never be under his name, always under her name. >> it is completely fabricated, complete trash, garbage, makes >> in a video posted online, sly is now fully recanting his story, claiming that he was just testing the reporter. >> and the statements on any recordings or the communications that they plan to air are absolutely false. >> it is whoever this guy would cut
