olympic medal. how much pressure is >> i don't think that gives me any pressure. it's a completely clean slate. >> reporter: but he did not originally make the first cut of the olympic team. he only made it when a teammate tore his acl during a dispoint in training. making the most of his second chance at olympic glory, but in the team competition, it just wasn't to be. the u.s. men putting up a the wildfire growing, already scorching 6,000 acres. >> and drowsy driving is causing a danger. a new report that highlights how many drivers are so sleepy their impairment is comparable to drunk >> i'm diane macedo. we begin this half hour with another accident on an amusement park ride. >> at a county fair in tennessee about 40 miles from knoxville. three girls fell from a ferris wheel when one of the baskets flipped. they fell 30 to 45 feet to the ground. >> i feel bad for the little kids. they just screamed a little bit, and then they just hit the ground, just laying there. everybody was calling 9-1-1. a lot of people, and then they had the balance aambulance and helicopters come in. i hate seeing something like that. >> such a terrifying scene for the witnesses. two of the victims were flown by old. >> firefighters rescues other riders and the accident is now under investigation. there are new developments this morning in the fatal water slide accident in kansas city. officials say he died of a neck injury. >> it turns out the verruckt, the world's tallest water slide was never inspected by the state of kansas because regulations only cover mechanized rides. still, the park there officials slide every day. we get more from alex perez. >> reporter: an eyewitness giving the first account of the horrific accident that can killed ten-year-old caleb shaup. >> i basically heard a couple of loud booms. sounded like something hit the slide. i looked at my cousin and i said i think that's a body outside of the raft. >> reporter: he was in the schlitterbauhn water park in riding in the front of the raft when the boy fell out. he was a registered nurse and raced to help. >> as i get closer and put my hand on the slide, the life guard says there's nothing you can do. >> reporter: earlier in the day he road that water slide with his cousin. she told him the velcro on one of the two seat belts came loose. >> her belt came undone. >> reporter: schwab was a fe freckled base baseball na born he brought joy to our family. the ride called verruckt, the german word for insane. standing at 16 168 feet high, and plummets 17 stories in seconds. riders reaching speeds of nearly 70 miles per hour. we were there when the ride opened two years ago. the slide requires a minimum hagt of 53 -- height of 400 pounds. >> reporter: early tests showing sandbag dummies flying off the slide. it was reworked. >> n a statement park officials said an investigation is ongoing. the slide is set to remain closed indefinitely. the rest of the water park set to reopen on wednesday. al alex perez. >> thanks to alex in kansas. we turn now to politics. and donald trump criticism from members of his o own party. some 50 republican national security officials saying they won't vote for trump. among the most prominent names, michael hayden, and former secretaries of homeland security, tom ridge. trump fired back calling them the failed washington elites, saying they're the reason why overnight, another prominent republican won't be voting for trump. senator susan collins says he shows disregard for human decency. she listed a series of incidents she was troubled by. they include trump's comments about the judge's hispanic heritage and his feud with a gold star family. a new candidate entered the race as a conservative former cia officer, evan mcmullin says both trump and hillary clinton aren't fit to be president. and he called trump a fraud and a conman. mcmullin says he's ready to fight. >> delta airlines is warning fliers to expect cancellations and delays. delta flights around the world for grounded for several hours after an e electrical failure knocked down computers. the issues affected thousands of passengers. the airline is now offering frustrated travelers cash and waivers. no california, a monster wildfire has scorched -- 5,000 homes under evacuation orders. it scorched more than 6,000 acres in the san bernardino mountains. hundreds of firefighters are battling the flames on the ground and in the air. the cause of the fire is under residents along florida's gulf coast are likely to see more of this. the drenching rainstorms continue for a second day. there will be heavy thunderstorms from the florida panhandle down to tampa with spotty storms extending up to the carolinas and across to florida's atlantic coast. some communities may see as much as a foot of rain. >> the family of a muslim teen arrested for bringing a homemade teachers said it looked like a bomb. others suggested it was a case match ever at the olympics on sunday. the 22-time grand slam and reigning olympic champion advanced in singles played. in men's gymnastics, it was a fifth place finish. the japanese team won gold. had start with an interesting discovery. these two guys elliot fuller and jason franklin were canoeing in wiscons wisconsin, and they came across a beaver dam. they see a leg sticking out of the dam. girls in the hospital after they fell 30 to 45 feet to the ground when their basket tipped over. >> all three were conscis the oldest is 16. other passengers had to be rescued from their baskets by firefighters. it's not clear if this was a malfunction or operator error. inspectors will check the ferris wheel later this morning. >> and investigators are piecing together how a ten-year-old boy died on a water slide. police say he died of a neck verruckt. >> two other passengers in his raft suffered only minor injuries, but the boy's body was not in the raft at the bottom of the slide. all riders on verruckt must be 4 1/2 feet tall, and the three riders in a raft have to weigh at least a total of 400 pounds. >> the schlitterbauhn park reopens tomorrow but not that water slide. we'll move to politics. donald trump facing opposition from within his own party. >> senator susan collins of maine says she cannot vote for trump, calling him unworthy of being president. e comments on
