[indistinct] >> sandra: a violent class outside a synagogue is anti-israel protesters block the interest. counterprotesters began to push back, and they chaos erupted from there. a local rabbi telling fox that the scenes reminded him of 1930s germany. i am sandra smith in new york. it is great to have you and kick off a new week. >> bret: i am bret baier in for john roberts in washington. this is "america reports." the l.a.p.d. responded to that seen with riot gear, attempting to break out the altercations arresting at least one person. it's happening is a newly promoted white house official faces heat for resurfaced tweets celebrating the anti-israel movement and comparing belize to "patriots." breaking down the white house new staff. first, jonathan hunt live in los angeles with more on this violent clash. how many protesters were swarming that synagogue? >> 100 in total. not a huge number. it was a major escalation of the many anti-israel protests we have seen. it targeted one of l.a.'s most well-known jewish neighborhoods in the heart of the city. it was clearly directly tar targeted. [indistinct] the pro-palestinian protesters descended on the area sunday morning and almost immediately, violence broke out as those protesters tried to block the entrance to the synagogue. jewish counterprotesters tried to push them back and for some time, violent fights broke out between the sides. >> many times on my head. i've got all the blood all over. >> you to engage in anyone's faces. protesting outside and the police started pushing us and running us around the neighborhood. >> riot police intervened to try to keep the groups apart. the pro-palestinian protesters from the jewish neighborhood. tensions remain high for several hours. at one point, at least 8 officers with weapons drawn, more than than 2 pro-palestinian protesters. concerning the vehicle itself could be used as a weapon. earlier today, president biden condemned the protest. "i am appalled by the scenes outside of the synagogue in los angeles. intimidating jewish congregants is dangerous, unconscionable, anti-semitic, and un-american." americans have a right to peaceful protest. blocking access to a house of worship and engaging violence is never acceptable. sandra, i spoke to the ribeye as the violence was playing out yesterday. he told me, it reminded him of the nazi youth in the streets of germany. "who would never have thought we would see this on the streets of american cities?" >> sandra: that is an incredible statement. thank you. >> bret: there's new controversies surrounding the white house latest promotion calling out the former interior department official who in the past has come down to israel and compares believes to lynch mobs. live at the white house with the latest on that. granted this new new staffers say? >> quite a few comments have come from the past on twitter that he is now trying to himself apologized for a period not directly. the white house certainly is not condemning any of these comments. leaving it up to him to address these statements. this take a look at them together. the first one is where he is talking about police officers saying that they are a "direct evolution of slave patriot patrols." ending the occupation of palestine. no shame in f -- #isupportg #isupportgazaclose --#3palesti ne he has come out with this brand-new post on x writing, "how so social media post from d i was younger do not reflect my views. i will continue my communications focused on climate and environmental policies. republicans say that all of this is promotion of tyler cherry is more about pandering to the l left. >> the optics of this are terrible. they know what he had out there. they hired him anyway. that to me is a continuation of pandering to the left. they don't really care until he gets them in trouble. >> this isn't really the first controversial promotion for this administration. this was about a year ago. the former senior department of energy official had to step down after he was charged with stealing luggage on taxpayer-funded travel here right now, although white house is doing is putting out a statement saying they are proud of having cherry on their staff. they are trying to pivot instead to abortion. >> bret: that decision today. live on the north line. speak to our viewers know more about the new hire. let's bring in civil rights attorney and fox contributor to put those tweets back up on the scene. where is the protection of the jewish community? >> sandra: i want to move on to this judge. an infamous georgia judge arrested in a club fight with a cop. we have body cam footage. this is doug lee county judge christina peterson versus the atlanta police. watch this. >> let her [bleep] go. >> that's a cop. >> take me where you want to take me. take me -- i don't. i got it. i can walk on my own. don't touch me. don't touch me. >> you do have small wrists. >> i know i do. they aren't supposed to be in handcuffs. >> sandra: we are vague and some of the details on the story. i know you have been tracking it down. this is a controversial judge he was arrested after allegedly hitting a police officer on the head and refusing to identify herself outside the nightclub in atlanta. police say that they detained her. a democrat and a club. failure to follow instruction of law enforcement officers using threats and violence as well as a battery of a police officer. it is not exactly clear on the details that led to her arrest. from what we have seen and learned so far, your reaction. >> i will tell you right now. she is facing separately some disciplinary charges with the georgia state bar association. here is the problem. she is a judge. she refused to give her name and obstructed the proceeding of trying to -- this is a person who should not be a judge or lawyer. she is in atlanta. she might get the democratic justice card because she gets their identity. in my opinion, she is looking for a separate form of justice unlike other americans like trump. this individual should face the full extent of the law. bill see? sp>> sandra: a judge has a notorious reputation. she was found guilty of systemic incompetence with the judicial voting unanimously that she would be ousted from office, leo, following 30 pounds of misconduct. there was a 3-person panel that found she ignored court house still abused personnel, and made an inappropriate posts on social media. >> is she a role model to be a judge? >> the good news right now is that the floodwaters are starting to recede. you can see that instruction right behind me and how quickly these waters lifting this manufacturing home up off of its foundation. the floodwaters grow so quickly that officials in rock valley sounded tornado sirens to make people up and get them out of your late in the evening hours on friday and morning hours of saturday. 21 counties across iowa are under emergency. and are asking the for help. across northwest iowa inundated with water. dozens of roads and bridges have been washed away. officials say 9 train cars were knocked off the tracks as the train attempted to cross over floodwaters. first responders calling this a critical situation. the intense amount of rainfall. some rain radar and parts of south dakota picking up between 8-18 inches of rain over the weekend. one person confirmed dead in south dakota due to the flooding. most of this water had nowhere to go. dozens of rivers reached all time high crest. and blue earth county, minnesota, officials are warning of the eminent collapse in mankato as the buildup -- officials don't know if the dam where totally failed. emergency officials have been warning officials downstream. down in rock valley, and efforts trying recover process. mother nature is drawing another curveball. it is brutally hot here. very humid. the temperature over 100 degrees. >> sandra: just to be clear. it took a minute to focus and on that house that is just balling over into the water behind you. >> yet. that manufactured home was lifted up by the floodwaters and was placed on this roadway behind me. the water came out. quickly when that levy breached up to 6 feet in some places. >> thank you very much. >> thank you. >> last weekend marked 52 years since title ix passed. many female athletes and their allies saying the law is under a greater threat than ever before. pro-transgender vandals went after a take back title ix tour bus in north carolina. people exit the bus and scribbled messages like "protected trans kids" that's bringing former education secretary betsy devos. thanks for being here. what about this vandalism and the issue broadly about how title ix is under attack? >> great to be with you. look, these are radicals behind this move. it is no surprise that their moves are radical. whether it is name-calling or vandalism or childish behavior. it is what you do when you can win on the merits of an arg argument. there is no reason for men to be in women's private spaces or taking places on women's sports teams. i have been proud to be in countless places with these courageous young women who are speaking up about the attack on title ix and the opportunities that women have been afforded because of title ix. >> there is a quote from a transgender athlete who won back won in ncaa title vowing to take all the records and compe competitions. she is trying to heal from the pain of trans sports bands. "my dreams were taken away from me once again. i plan on hitting up all the indoor competitions and taking all the names, all the records, and everything." except for some families to hear that with female athletes in the family. how do you react to it? why do you think this is going? >> and again, and is being driven by a bunch of radicals who are trying to make a case that biological males can and should compete on women's teams simply because they have decided they are female. it is not fair to women. it is not fair to all of the young women who spent countless hours impeding in training and pursuing each of their athletic abilities and having opportunities as a result taken away by these biological males. >> i want to ask you one more question about a different to topic. salle is banning cell phones in schools. we have seen a lot of studies about cell phones and kids and concerns. the surgeon general had warning about social media and time on phones. what are your thoughts on that from an educational point of view of cell phones in schools? >> i think it is probably a very good move. it is an issue to be dealt with and grappled with in our k-12 schools. with young kids who are increasingly getting sucked into and addicted to these social platforms, it will be interesting to see if there are others that follow suit. i think putting boundaries around phone use in times of learning is a really good thing. i may comment back to their previous issue again. the good side of this issue regarding women in sports is that there are 2 avenue is being fought today. one in the courts. 10 states have been enjoying from enacting the biden rule. the congress is preceded with a grcongressional review to put eh member of congress on record on this issue. are they going to stand with women and their opportunities to pursue their education and sports, or are they going to side with the radicals in the biden administration and allowing for these spaces to be invaded by biological males. >> bret: madam secretary, thanks for being here. >> sandra: more issues on board the international space station. another fix is needed. why their return to earth has been delayed yet again. >> bret: a family is suing nasa over a piece of space junk tearing a hole through their house. how did this happen in the first place? >> i would be doing my happy dance. if i was told i had to stay another week in space. i know they are enjoying that every day that they are up there. this is the first crew mission of the star liner. you have to get the kinks out. remember when we first came out of the space shuttle. we had a lot of problems. that is what happens when you first introduce a new space vehicle. you get the kinks out. this is what is happening. in an emergency, his vehicle can be commanded back down to earth. they want to make sure they've got their is dotted and ts cross. a lot of data right now and a lot of test data. they are getting more data than they could envisi
