[indistinct] >> sandra: a violent class outside a synagogue is anti-israel protesters block the interest. counterprotesters began to push back, and they chaos erupted from there. a local rabbi telling fox that the scenes reminded him of 1930s germany. i am sandra smith in new york. it is great to have you and kick off a new week. >> bret: i am bret baier in for john roberts in washington. this is "america reports." the l.a.p.d. responded to that seen with riot gear, attempting to break out the altercations arresting at least one person. it's happening is a newly promoted white house official faces heat for resurfaced tweets celebrating the anti-israel movement and comparing belize to "patriots." breaking down the white house new staff. first, jonathan hunt live in los angeles with more on this violent clash. how many protesters were swarming that synagogue? >> 100 in total. not a huge number. it was a major escalation of the many anti-israel protests we have seen. it targeted one of l.a.'s most well-known jewish neighborhoods in the heart of the city. it was clearly directly tar targeted. [indistinct] the pro-palestinian protesters descended on the area sunday morning and almost immediately, violence broke out as those protesters tried to block the entrance to the synagogue. jewish counterprotesters tried to push them back and for some time, violent fights broke out between the sides. >> many times on my head. i've got all the blood all over. >> you to engage in anyone's faces. protesting outside and the police started pushing us and running us around the neighborhood. >> riot police intervened to try to keep the groups apart. the pro-palestinian protesters from the jewish neighborhood. tensions remain high for several hours. at one point, at least 8 officers with weapons drawn, more than than 2 pro-palestinian protesters. concerning the vehicle itself could be used as a weapon. earlier today, president biden condemned the protest. "i am appalled by the scenes outside of the synagogue in los angeles. intimidating jewish congregants is dangerous, unconscionable, anti-semitic, and un-american." americans have a right to peaceful protest. blocking access to a house of worship and engaging violence is never acceptable. sandra, i spoke to the ribeye as the violence was playing out yesterday. he told me, it reminded him of the nazi youth in the streets of germany. where is the protection of the jewish community? >> sandra: i want to move on to this judge. an infamous georgia judge arrested in a club fight with a cop. we have body cam footage. this is doug lee county judge christina peterson versus the atlanta police. watch this. >> let her [bleep] go. >> that's a cop. >> take me where you want to take me. take me -- i don't. i got it. i can walk on my own. don't touch me. don't touch me. >> you do have small wrists. >> i know i do. they aren't supposed to be in handcuffs. >> sandra: we are vague and some of the details on the story. i know you have been tracking it down. this is a controversial judge he was arrested after allegedly hitting a police officer on the head and refusing to identify herself outside the nightclub in atlanta. police say that they detained her. a democrat and a club. failure to follow instruction of law enforcement officers using threats and violence as well as a battery of a police officer. it is not exactly clear on the details that led to her arrest. from what we have seen and learned so far, your reaction. >> i will tell you right now. she is facing separately some disciplinary charges with the georgia state bar association. here is the problem. she is a judge. she refused to give her name and obstructed the proceeding of trying to -- this is a person who should not be a judge or lawyer. she is in atlanta. she might get the democratic justice card because she gets their identity. in my opinion, she is looking for a separate form of justice unlike other americans like trump. this individual should face the full extent of the law. bill see? sp>> sandra: a judge has a notorious reputation. she was found guilty of systemic incompetence with the judicial voting unanimously that she would be ousted from office, leo, following 30 pounds of misconduct. there was a 3-person panel that found she ignored court house still abused personnel, and made an inappropriate posts on social media. >> is she a role model to be a judge? >> the good news right now is that the floodwaters are starting to recede. you can see that instruction right behind me and how quickly these waters lifting this manufacturing home up off of its foundation. the floodwaters grow so quickly that officials in rock valley sounded tornado sirens to make people up and get them out of your late in the evening hours on friday and morning hours of saturday. 21 counties across iowa are under emergency. and are asking the for help. across northwest iowa inundated with water. dozens of roads and bridges have been washed away. officials say 9 train cars were knocked off the tracks as the train attempted to cross over floodwaters. first responders calling this a critical situation. the intense amount of rainfall. some rain radar and parts of south dakota picking up between 8-18 inches of rain over the weekend. one person confirmed dead in south dakota due to the flooding. most of this water had nowhere to go. dozens of rivers reached all time high crest. and blue earth county, minnesota, officials are warning of the eminent collapse in mankato as the buildup -- officials don't know if the dam where totally failed. emergency officials have been warning officials downstream. down in rock valley, and efforts trying recover process. mother nature is drawing another curveball. it is brutally hot here. very humid. the temperature over 100 degrees. >> sandra: just to be clear. it took a minute to focus and on that house that is just balling over into the water behind you. >> yet. that manufactured home was lifted up by the floodwaters and was placed on this roadway behind me. the water came out. quickly when that levy breached up to 6 feet in some places. >> thank you very much. >> thank you. >> last weekend marked 52 years since title ix passed. many female athletes and their allies saying the law is under a greater threat than ever before. pro-transgender vandals went after a take back title ix tour bus in north carolina. people exit the bus and scribbled messages like "protected trans kids" that's bringing former education secretary betsy devos. thanks for being here. what about this vandalism and the issue broadly about how title ix is under attack? >> great to be with you. look, these are radicals behind this move. it is no surprise that their moves are radical. whether it is name-calling or vandalism or childish behavior. it is what you do when you can win on the merits of an arg argument. there is no reason for men to be in women's private spaces or taking places on women's sports teams. i have been proud to be in countless places with these courageous young women who are speaking up about the attack on title ix and the opportunities that women have been afforded because of title ix. >> there is a quote from a transgender athlete who won back won in ncaa title vowing to take all the records and compe competitions. she is trying to heal from the pain of trans sports bands. "my dreams were taken away from me once again. i plan on hitting up all the indoor competitions and taking all the names, all the records, and everything." except for some families to hear that with female athletes in the family. how do you react to it? why do you think this is going? >> and again, and is being driven by a bunch of radicals who are trying to make a case that biological males can and should compete on women's teams simply because they have decided they are female. it is not fair to women. it is not fair to all of the young women who spent countless hours impeding in training and pursuing each of their athletic abilities and having opportunities as a result taken away by these biological males. >> i want to ask you one more question about a different to topic. salle is banning cell phones in schools. we have seen a lot of studies about cell phones and kids and concerns. the surgeon general had warning about social media and time on phones. what are your thoughts on that from an educational point of view of cell phones in schools? >> i think it is probably a very good move. it is an issue to be dealt with and grappled with in our k-12 schools. with young kids who are increasingly getting sucked into and addicted to these social platforms, it will be interesting to see if there are others that follow suit. i think putting boundaries around phone use in times of learning is a really good thing. i may comment back to their previous issue again. the good side of this issue regarding women in sports is that there are 2 avenue is being fought today. one in the courts. 10 states have been enjoying from enacting the biden rule. the congress is preceded with a grcongressional review to put eh member of congress on record on this issue. are they going to stand with women and their opportunities to pursue their education and sports, or are they going to side with the radicals in the biden administration and allowing for these spaces to be invaded by called off the star liner crews returning to earth from the international space station as the astronauts are working out problems on board. former astronaut will join us to react. live do madison scarpino. they have determined that target date for these astronauts to reentry. >> no, they haven't. this is the star liner's first manned mission. glitches with the spacecraft are keeping the astronauts at the international space station for a lot longer than expected. imation started on june 5th and was only expected to last aroun. here we are weeks later, nasa saying the astronauts won't make it back to earth until at least july. nasa says the star liner has problems with the thrusters and some helium leaks. >> they are 1/100th of what can be tolerated. 100 times worse, and it will still be okay. the first flight of any vehicle, you will be a little extra cautious, which is what you are seeing here. >> engineers are taking the time to study issues which helps future astronaut so they don't run into that same problems. even with the issues, nasa says the star liner is doing well in orbit. in an emergency, the star liner would be cleared to return to earth. the delays are not a good look for boeing. >> here we have china returning a mission with samples from the far side of the moon. a first in human history. it looks like nasa and boeing can't get their own people back from lower earth orbit. >> there was a space log schedule. and later canceled. there was a water leak in the cooling unit of one of the astronauts base suit. a second time that the iss as canceled a spacewalk in recent weeks because of space suit issues. back to you. >> sandra: nasa and boeing, left-wing and former nasa astronaut jose hernandez. first to the star liner and boeing situation getting these astronauts home. being stuck in space, i guess, in their dreams, it doesn't sound so bad. if you can't get home, things can get scary. but do you estimate is going on here? >> i would be doing my happy dance. if i was told i had to stay another week in space. i know they are enjoying that every day that they are up there. this is the first crew mission of the star liner. you have to get the kinks out. remember when we first came out of the space shuttle. we had a lot of problems. that is what happens when you first introduce a new space vehicle. you get the kinks out. this is what is happening. in an emergency, his vehicle can be commanded back down to earth. they want to make sure they've got their is dotted and ts cross. a lot of data right now and a lot of test data. they are getting more data than they could envision. you look at the glass half full in the sense that they are testing the heck out of the whole system of the star liner and getting a lot of data. >> sandra: spoken like a true astronaut. the rest of us are terrified. how do you get home if you can't fix what's broken? maybe the headlines are more scary. an indefinite -- while these nasa astronauts continue to investigate no-fault. one reads that they are running out of time. the window for a return flight is closing. the 45 days of docking time that is available. what happens at 45 days? >> 45 days is what it was designed and certified for. i will tell you, on day 46, nothing is going to happen. from what you expected to stay there. with respect to food and water, there is 6 astronauts that are stationed permanently on the international space station. when we were out there, there were 13 of us. seven through the space shuttle and six around the station. we live comfortably for 14 days together. there is enough food for months on end. air and water and food is not an issue. it is a matter let's get this thing right and getting down sooner or later. i am sure the astronauts are saying a letter later. >> sandra: i would imagine so. we hope they get home safely. we will keep following this story and hope they get a fix soon. meanwhile, the spacewalk cancellation. nasa canceling the spacewalk. this is no moment where the crew points out the leak to the nasa command center. >> yeah, there's a lot of particulars flowing around here. >> turned the water off. >> reconnect. take a look at that. is it still coming out? >> i don't think we can do it. >> there is water everywhere. >> let's get you connected. >> there is literally water everywhere. >> sandra: that was a live broadcast. they were reporting as you just heard, literally water everywhere as they were moving to internal power. to prepare for more activity. what did you think when you heard that? >> but i think is when you put on a suit to go out in space, you put on a spider-man suit that has a lot of different hoses that go throughout your whole body and connect to your cooling system which recirculates the water to keep your body at the desired temperature. it is either the interface leak or one of the lines broke. and we have got water coming over which is not good to do a spacewalk when you have water inside your suit. it is the right call to cancel that and try to find what the root causes and fix it. things like this happen in space. it's not the very first water leak. i'm sure they will work on it and have it fixed and will continue with the spacewalk in a few a few days. >> sandra: i love your optimism. we have 3 stories we are jam packing and for you. having an astronaut here, we will get you all the space stories. there is a florida family suing nasa after this piece of space debris, man-made material, crashed through the roof of their home. it is bringing up questions about who is responsible with space debris causes damage on earth. your thoughts on that. >> that is a concern. that piece of debris. i think close to the date that, on florida home, they deployed a battery pack. i think that is a piece of it that came down. nasa has to do a better job at calculating -- if it is going to completely disintegrate. if it is not, they need to be able to put it down where it is going to land in the ocean and not hurt anyone. for that reason, i agree with the family that damages need to be paid for the house. whether there is a mental anguish and all that, that is for the lawyers to decide. certainly paid for the property damage. >> i think that family is making the case that it cost a lot of stresses while their 19-year-old son was at the house at that time. he was a few rooms away unharmed. it will be interesting to see where that goes. >> hopefully, they are not so hard-nosed about it. >> sandra: i love that very complicated smartboard right behind you. >> bret: as you are looking live outside the u.s. supreme court. 100 or 150 protesters, pro-life, pro-choice, they call themselves. the other side of antiabortion and pro-abortion. not just because of that temperature, but because they have been going back and forth shouting at each other. we had some punches thrown outside the u.s. supreme court. this is the anniversary of the decision overturning roe v. wade show is june 24, 2022, sandra. this is a massive political issues. it is playing out in the presidential race. and unrestricted abortion in some way and democrats believe this is a big issue as we wait for the supreme court to weigh in on its next case. >> sandra: it is a planned rally happening outside the supreme court. we are learning that punches were briefly thrown. right in front of them, there are a lot of are a lot of swearwords being exchanged among those in attendance. it's a rowdy crowd. the counterprotesters signs in front of the speaker and holding antiabortion signs. the pro-abortion crowd is chanting to -- this is what we are seeing play out. >> bret: you have as a vice president of the united states giving a speech about this the department, criticizing the fbi. just try to get your mind around that. this unfortunately has been the signature of jack smith who seems to believe that nothing succeeds like success. he has had stern opinion saying, we don't do that. it is not the job of the court to keep people from criticizing your department in an election where your department is one of the central issues. >> standard protocol. have some people said some very over-the-top things about what that meant, plans to go after the former president, yes. does that prevent the former president graham complaining about the raise overall? it seems like candidates have a lot of leeway on political speech. in the middle of a presidential election months away from the american public is going to decide. we are not sure that this case will be heard before the election. >> that's right. when the president made the argument that this was a threat against his life, many of us went on the arians and this is a standard part of these search warrants. that is free speech. it doesn't guarantee you won't have bad speeds. it guarantees you will have better speech. we can challenge these things. there is a great deal in this election that president trump is trying to talk about. and his legitimate interests. what happened in manhattan was a political prosecution. he should be able to speak on that. the manhattan judge is keeping that gag order in place long after the verdict has come in and then jerry has gone out. he is also exercising throttle control over the leading presidential candidates in this election. >>
