21 bar at turk and taylor streets. that's in the tenderloin. it happened yesterday. witnessless witnessless -- witnesses say the victim was sitting on the sidewalk when the fire started. they hope to find more witnesses. a shooting death of a 15-year-old high school student. police found the body of oscar gonzalez on the front porch of his home just after 1 a.m. yesterday. he had been shot at least once. they believe that killing was gang-related. oakland's first homicide of the new year happened just nine minutes after nid night yesterday. a teenager boy was killed, two others wounded outside an apartment complex on high street. so far there have been no arrests and police say they have no information about the suspects. president obama's former minister jeremiah wright was in the east bay this weekend. the controversial pastor is hoping to launch a new movement for positive social change. lisa amin gulezian. >> the african american community in the bay area has made national berkeley, lisa amin gulezian abc 7 news. >> napa county residents woke up to a white new year. about 3 or 4 inches of snow fell early yesterday morning. several vehicles got stuck over mount saint helena. that's the roadway between napa and lake counties. a tour bus and up to six other vehicles had to be hauled out of the snow. the chp put out calls to the napa county roads department and fighting jets scrambling. it was all because a jetliner lost radio contact yesterday as it approached the area. the piedmont airlines flight was headed from hiltonhead, south carolina to washington d.c. reagan national airport. air traffic controllers were unable to talk to the pilot. they were finally able to make contact about 15 minutes later and the flight landed without incident. investigators say the pilot had inadvertently turned his radio to the wrong frequency. a rush than passenger jet caught fire and exploded in a run away in siberia this weekend. 3 people were killed, 46 injured. most of the passengers and crew were evacuated before the explosion. people on board describe a really chaotic scene as the plane filled with thick, black smoke. panicked passengers climbed over each other trying to escape. the fire broke out in one of the engines as the plane taxied for takeoff. the first new born of the year in the bay area appears to be a baby girl in the east bay. she was delivered at the medical center in berkeley just seven minutes into the new year. she was premature weighing 4 found 5 ounces. her mom, stephanie hernandez santos was surprised to learn that her baby was the first to be born this year. >> i didn't believe it. i was like she can't be a first baby. there has to be a whole bunch of others. no she was the first one. >> the little girl is named azara, help from god and letty is a female battle warrior. both mom and daughter are doing well. congratulations to them and on this second day of the year, more of the same. >> deja vu groundhog day, whatever you wanna call it. moderate rain. we will be looking at the rain ending in the north bay first today but it's coming down pretty good in the south bay. i'll have a look at next week coming up. >> we're actually fortunate when you look at this severe weather hitting the midwest where tornados leave many families homeless. today, we gather to recognize the selfless decision of one of the most influential women of our time. the woman who, after having one too many drinks chose not to drive home buzzed. here today to honor rachel is the family whose lives she spared. >> happy argen around to give you the full accu-weather forecast. residents see what's left of their homes after tornados ripped across a half dozen states since new year's eve. seven people are dead, dozens injured, 280 homes have been damaged. abc 7's john hendron reports on the holiday weekend tragedy. >> video posted on youtube.com caught one tornado as it struck leonard wood in missouri. across the region the new year begins in misery for many who must pull together pieces of their lives. >> not many we can do with mother nature's fury. >> dozens of tornados crashed the holiday in five states spreading death and destruction. >> our whole house started shakin', the windows started bustin' out and then it was gone. >> the freak storm took residents by surprise with little time for warning and mistake. ominous clouds bore witness to the approaching twister then sirens wailed the warning. this woman and young son barely got out alive. there were boards on top of us and i managed to get them off and screamed out for help from my neighborhoods. >> missouri's governor got a firsthand look. >> dozens of people staying at hotels or with friends and as the folks come back, they have to be housed other places, too. a very long, broad and very quick-moving storm. >> fuelled by warm air very unusual for this time of year touched down from arkansas across southern missouri and up to central illinois. elsewhere stormy weather continues. >> get out of the way! >> in colorado springs made for dangerous driving on iowa's roads. in california, they're digging out, too mounds of mud just around the corner. because this is the last in the series of pretty significant storms headed our way. highly likely that we will be looking at a pattern change. the golden gate bridge. this is where you see the improving weather first this afternoon as the area of low pressure sinks to the south and east another shot for you. this morning from the roof camera here the embarcadero. so wet weather throughout the morning hours. in fact it's coming down pretty good in the south bay the santa cruz mountains. that will be the focus today. live doppler 7 hd shows the north bay where windsor santa rosa petaluma highway 101 over towards here looking at light to moderate rain through vallejo and richmond. we take you into the east bay, san leandro and hayward. light to moderate rain also back through berkeley. you saw the city, san bruno, moss beach. but take a look at this. this is the heavy rain from milpitas to san jose, right around through sunnyvale. this is going to lift on to the north and east. and down along the peninsula. still just a light to moderate rain in redwood city. pretty good cell getting ready to move through woodside this morning. and finally take a look at the emphasis the focus of the south bay, down through gilroy morgan hill. and this is the circulation, the area of low pressure looking pushing the rain up to the north and east and eventually this area of low pressure sinks to the south. so we'll see the improving conditions north bay. it's a cold start in parts of the north bay. 41 fairfield. 49 redwood city with 50 san jose. and half moon bay. breezy winds from mountain view to napa as well and especially along the coast. if you're traveling south of san francisco, be careful breezy winds and pretty good downpours. heavier rain south bay. a wind weather advisory to the north. lake county you saw the snow there. there's a chance that could happen again and for the sierra and dry days ahead starting tomorrow. here's a look at our satellite and radar composite. the area of low pressure still west of san francisco. you can see the wrap-around moisture. it is sending rain up through the sierra nevada but the bulk of the activity will be here to the san joaquin valley. still looking pretty wet. heaviest rain to the south, morgan hill santa cruz mountains. by this afternoon just scattered light afternoon showers. here we are by 4:00, 5:00 tonight. still some rain out there but certainly not as much as we're seeing this morning and the trend will be for more stable air to move our way tomorrow. here's the winter weather advisory through 8:00 where we could see some of that snow 4 to 8 inches above 3,000 feet and the snow level at 2500 feet. in the mountains until 10:00 tonight, we're looking at 6 to 12 inches at lake level, 10 to 18 inches 7,000 feet. hazardous roads, bring your chains. low to mid-40s in the north bay. your rain becoming more widely scattered by this morning late this morning but not for you in the south bay and around the central coast. heavier rain throughout the morning and we'll look for highs there just in the low 50s. but take a look at this. doesn't that look nice. we'll have dense fog in the morning, slight chance of showers monday and then a string of sunny and mild days. looks like by next weekend we can see more rain. we're due for a break. >> we are. thanks, lisa. the sun came out for the rose parade in pasadena after a series of storms in southern california. hundreds of thousands of spectators lined the streets to watch the floats and marching bands. many who staked out viewing spots on the sidewalk braved temperatures that dipped into the low 40s overnight friday. 17-year-old evan friedman was this year's rose queen. the ma raid was held up briefly when one of
