reopen? >> caltrans tells it this portion of 37 will be closed for a little while. they say the soonest it would open would be tomorrow monday. you can see that road closed sign behind me and that truck right there is being forced off of the highway at this exit. >> it's something you don't see often state route. 37 without a single car on it. caltrans in coordination with california highway patrol close 37 in both directions. you can see cars being forced off on atherton avenue in nevada. jeff weiss with caltrans says it's because of storm-related flooding. >> i would 37 flooded yesterday novato creek jumped over the levee. still not to the high. it was first close saturday. reopen until the rain lets up. >> why says cal fans has been pumping the water off the pavement at one point it was almost dry, but then it started raining again. he says that they're not just worried about the water raining down on the pavement. >> but also the water streaming down the mountains and into the bottle creek. >> the big problem is it's being said, but creek in the creek overflowed. so all the water that's coming into the water. schitt's creek is coming towards slow spot, which is highway 37. he says caltrans is going to continue to monitor it closely. >> there are multiple concerns. we have some of the complications, particularly with tides it so close to the bay that with the tide rises. it cause more flooding. >> there's there's no place for the water to do any water that's pushed up higher. motorists are encouraged to use us 101. >> to i-58-, richmond, sandra fell bridge then eastbound i-80 to travel from or other north bay destinations. >> caltrans tells me they have people working around the clock to remove all of that water from the highway. again, they hope to because of all those rain droplets on the camera. meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez giving us a look ahead at just how much longer this rain is going to be fallen. yeah, it's going to be in the bay area from now through monday morning. so it's going to continue all night long. let's take a look at radar for tracking widespread light rain and some pockets of moderate showers just east of nevado are seeing widespread moderate rain for those of you hercules and martinez in the east bay. in addition to the south bay as well. not only tracking light to moderate showers over saratoga. >> but even some mountain snow making its presence known over the diablo range and over mount hamilton just east of san jose. so we're tracking this plume of moisture from hawaii out in the pacific tapping into our storm. bring us another atmospheric river. and we do have a slight chance of pop-up thunderstorms after midnight. it is going to be fairly unstable. and as you can see, we're tracking mountain snow as a result of that. so it is going to be a colder core storm than what we saw last night. and we are tracking, though, overnight showers will continue until that drying trend resumes monday morning. and we're going to stay dry for the rest of your monday afternoon and evening where we could pick up half an inch of rain to upwards of an inch of rain, highest amounts for those of you over san jose. so no surprise. we have flood advisories and flood watches in effect for the bay area from now through monday night. noel, back to you. but recent thank you. after more than 2 weeks of significant rainfall, california's water reservoirs are rising. >> quickly, here are 2 summaries from the california department of water resources on the left. that was the situation on january. first on the right is the most recent report released just this weekend. you can see quite a bit of movement there while none of the major reservoirs are at capacity. many are at or above their historical average. the state's largest reservoir lake shasta went from 34% full to 49% full. but it's still 80% of average for this time of year. the second-largest reservoir lake oroville is that 99% of its historical average going from 37% to 54% full here in the bay area. all 7 reservoirs in marin county are full and sonoma lake is that 99% of its historical average. >> lake sonoma is and about 223,000 acre feet. in to give you perspective, the top of the red, the top of the water conservation tool. it's 245,000 acre it is over 90% full for the north bay. and and and so the county right now, things are looking great. and and we hope to continue to see the storms, maybe not intensity. >> of the state's 17 largest reservoirs, 8 are currently above average. even as we get into a drier period runoff from all the rain is going to continue to flow into our reservoirs for the foreseeable future. take a look at this. a mudslide covering both lanes of highway one just south of mill creek near big sur. the gates at paul's slide remain closed tonight. and crews are responding to a new closure north of lucy as well. caltrans is continue to evaluate this area. as for the elephant seal viewing area, that's pretty popular there. 4 miles north of san simeon. it's going to remain closed to large slide continues to cover both sides of the roadway, restricting access there. president biden has approved california's request for a disaster declaration paving the way now for federal funds to help recovery efforts. the declaration applies to affected individuals in the counties or said sacramento and santa cruz. they area congresswoman barbara reacting to the disaster declaration today on twitter. she thanked the president saying the federal assistance will be, quote, crucial to a full recovery. other news tonight, a fire kills 2 pets and displaced 2 people in petaluma broke out on petaluma boulevard north friday afternoon. petaluma fire says smoke and flames or coming from the second story of a 3 story building fire was contained within about 20 minutes to residents were home at the time they were able to escape along with 2 of their pets. unfortunately, the other 2 pets, a dog, guinea pig did die after station efforts failed. the building was declared uninhabitable by a city building inspector cause of the fire remains under investigation. and an investigation is underway tonight after san francisco firefighters recovered a body from the bay waters near the ferry building today. sfpd and the san francisco fire department responded around 10:00am 2 reports of a deceased body in the water. police say foul play is not suspected in this step, but they didn't really elaborate there. the san francisco medical examiner is leading the investigation into the cause of death. anyone with information is asked to contact sfpd. by now. you've seen video that outraged many in the bay area and beyond and unhoused woman being sprayed with water. >> on san francisco city streets today, the naacp held a forum with some local leaders to discuss what's being done. >> the san francisco chapter of the naacp is demanding the business owner apologize for spring. the weather service says an ef one tornado struck down in milton on wednesday. that's about 32 miles east of stockton. that one had winds up to 90 miles an hour. we've been seeing our fair share of here, nothing that intense. so this is a live look at the bay bridge tonight where you can see lots of rain still falling. we've got a lot of raindrops on the camera there. kron 4 meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez taking a look at exactly where this storm stands right now. yeah, we are tracking some pot pockets of heavier rain making its way into the bay area. so let's zoom on into radar for and we're noticing some moderate showers currently over the coast of daly city and south san francisco. even the sunset district starting to get some heavy downpours out there right now, knocking on downtown san francisco's door. and even as we make are trying to cross into the east bay shoreline, san leandro, you're also starting to notice some pockets of moderate showers as well. we are seeing some pretty widespread moderate rain from not only nevada but even into valais and just over martinez. for those of you in the east bay and in the south bay milpitas and san jose. big bull's eye there. we're tracking some pockets of moderate moisture out there. so heavier rain drops falling in the south bay. you're really going to get the bulk of the rain from this atmospheric river. in addition to that, yeah, we're even tracking snow showers throughout the highest peaks of the bay area. specifically over mount diablo range and even over mount hamilton. so we're going to wake up to a little bit of a winter wonderland throughout our highest peaks in the east bay and parts of the south bay because of those light snow showers. and right now we are tracking reduced visibility in the east bay over berkeley because of those heavier downpours there. when tracker for though, fortunately wind speeds on the calm to breezy side. so no wind advisories in effect, the breezy us winds right now out of the northeast. for those of you in downtown san francisco, seeing sustained winds at 21 miles per hour with gusts upwards of 25 miles per hour mid to upper 40's as you step outside right now. so pretty uniform numbers. pacifica. 45 degrees with an app a little bit milder trying to flirt with 50's. but 49 degrees overnight lows tonight low to mid 40's. so it is going to be a little bit cooler out there tonight compared to last night, the high temperatures tomorrow holding steady mid 50's. the good news is we're going to see a lot more sunshine for your monday afternoon as we start to dry crashed into a gorge today. the plane carrying 72 people. >> was trying to land at a newly opened airport in central nepal. witnesses say the plane caught fire right after making impact. one witness even says he heard a man crying for help. couldn't get to him, though, because of the flames and smoke. at least 68 people died in this tragedy. officials will continue their search for 4 missing passengers tomorrow. the plane crash is one of the country's deadliest in 3 decades. meanwhile, the death toll in ukraine continues to rise tonight after a missile strike destroyed. a 9 story apartment building. the regional governor says at least 29 people died during yesterday's attack. rescuers combed through the wreckage looking for survivors. residents returning this morning to collect salvage belongings. more than 1000 people lived in that apartment block which now lies in ruin. one survivor says he was shocked by the strike, which targeted civilians, not a military base. russia acknowledged launching missiles but did not say anything about targeting civilians in the building. a top ukrainian commander says russia fired a total 33 cruise missiles yesterday. 21 of them were shot down in defense. chinese officials reporting nearly 60,000 covid-related deaths since december 8th of last year. more than 90% of those deaths were from patients who had a pre-existing medical condition. the other 10% were caused by covid patients who suffered from respiratory failure. the announcement comes in response to complaints from the world health organization about the chinese government intentionally withholding covid death statistics following a spike in cases back in october. chinese officials say the average age of those killed by covid during the surge was over blocking a residential street. does kron four's camila barco reports 2 homes have been deemed unsafe to live in. you can even see the road in this belmont neighborhood right up this hill are 2 homes that have had a huge chunk of land and part of a retaining wall break off. >> with more storms headed our way. neighbors are worried about their property. >> this is video of this scene. it's on 28. 47 pm one boulevard the soil has become so saturated part of this hill came falling down and the piece of land has blocked the road. the homes are at the foot of the very steep hillside where that mudslide happened. one neighbor tells me the home has been red tagged, which means the people living there. we're told it's not safe to be inside and they needed to leave.
