teargassed. >> there were officers on the ground, you know, they were bleeding. they were throwing up, they were, you know, they had -- i mean, i saw friends with blood all over their faces. i was slipping in people's blood. >> the justice department arrested 1,069 people for the capitol insurrection. of them, 350 defendants were accused of assaulting, impeding or resisting officers. and of those accused of opposing officers, at least 51 were convicted. another 104 defendants pleaded guilty. joining me now, charles ramsey, he led the police forces here in washington, d.c. and philadelphia. chief ramsey, there has been some criticism from republicans that this indictment, these indictments are weak, because they're based merely on lies that the president told that day on january 6th and leading up to

games i'm stressed thinking about it. all right, talking about the weather this looks a lot better than it did, these heat alerts than what we were dealing with last week and still got 37 million people under these alerts stretching from basically wichita to oklahoma city and down through dallas out to new orleans. the southwest not included in this, parts of the southeast not included in this. but still some record breaking temperatures are out there for parts of the south here as we get into the afternoon hours today. one of those spots being dallas heads to 107. that would tie a record for today, and doesn't get a lot better for tomorrow either. houston 103, that record 104. when we look up to the east and north west, we finally got back to average conditions like places in new york and low 80s and major improvements in d.c. low to mid-80s and end up in the high 80s by the time saturday rolls around but we've also got showers and thunderstorms to talk about. this morning most of that is focused off towards the rockies and we could be talking about

dallas out to west texas. but it is just hot and humid and gross. a lot of areas here, i was looking at brownsville, feels like 111 right now. new orleans feels like 107 already. here we are in the lunch hour here in the central time zone, dallas, 104. it is a really hot, humid, gross type of air mass. we will be near some records. yesterday we were just shy of the record high in dallas, you get the idea here. and then tomorrow we'll do it all over again. no relief coming from the north, no cool air, no rain, no tropical systems, which is good, i guess. it is still really, really hot and dry throughout the region. and then as we look toward the edges, the actual temperatures are very warm in all areas that we just talked about. it is going to continue that way and here is your august outlook, chris. new england, great lakes, kind of normal. mid-atlantic, but down along the gulf coast, this is where we continue to bake. one of the things people are talking about with the water

with the temperatures climbing above normal. little rock by wednesday 100 degrees, monroe, louisiana, 104, birmingham, alabama, 94 degrees. 5 to 10 degrees above normal. thankfully of the midwest back into the northeast had that cold front run through. yes, it brought severe weather but it did a accident in the temperature. chicago 79 degrees for a high today. and once we move into boston, look at this, 76 for today. all of us across the southeast above normal as the dome sits over top of us. little rock your heat index when we factor in the dew points of 70 plus, it will feel like 112 degrees, new orleans 107, jacksonville 108. many under alerts, over 70 plus million. heat advisory the dominant alert, excessive heat warnings now in effect for parts of the florida panhandle. take frequent breaks. that is your best advice, stay high dratds, stay away from the timeframes of 1:00 to 4:00.

heat dome. who will be getting baked and who will see some relief? >> i was going to say the easier question may be who is not going to see the extreme heat. yes, the heat dome is really taking up much of the country. we have seen it shift east and it will continue the trend before finally starting to shift a little bit farther southward. but this is really where a lot of this intense heat is coming from. you have all of these excessive heat warnings and heat advisories out for much of the midwest, northeast, but we do also still have some across portions of the southwestern tier as well. the heat index well into the triple digits. you are talking 104 in chicago, 110 for feels like it in cincinnati. even 107 for washington, d.c. one area however that is finally seeing the heat index drop below triple digits for the first time in 46 days was miami. yesterday not quite meeting the threshold thanks to cloud cover and showers and thunderstorms in the area. but the heat itself is still

minneapolis, 97 degrees with a heat index value of 104 later today. we go south to birmingham, heat index into the triple digits, too, and of course new york headed to 94 degrees today with that feels like temperature at 102. if you're looking for some relief, it doesn't happen tomorrow either. keep the temperatures through at least parts of the weekend into the north east, we'll get a little relief beyond that for the midwest and north east. but the southeast not much relief in sight even into early next week. and severe weather expected and 59 million people included in this and does include afternoon commutes for places like washington, d.c., boston, new york, have that hazard of the large hail and strong winds but also have heavy rain expected, jonathan, that could lead to flooding. >> angie, i'm here in washington and just saw on your screen heat index tomorrow of 109. >> yep, i hope you've got a personal fan you can carry around for all your gigs
