he'd dpesgesture at him. they kept saying, "you know, cc la linking up." he was gesturing to him, and you don't want that from your quarterback. >> prescott was fragile. the cowboys were so fragile. lamb had one bad drop early, and they never recovered. it seemed like prescott was blaming him for the balls he threw that weren't good. he was tentative all day. the pick six was the end of the game in the first half. missed the coverage. i'll note it was on thursday on this show i predicted bill belichick to dallas because the cowboys were going to lose, which they did, and belichick would be a fit. they need help on the defensive end. >> i can verify this. >> yes. >> chiefs and dolphins, saturday

patriots to hire a black man as that story continues to play out about black coaches, head coaches in the nfl. >> you were saying bill belichick isn't done yet. do you think we'll see him on the sidelines next season? >> i kind of do. i covered him over the years and i know him a little bit, and i cannot imagine that 15 wins away from passing the great don shula of the miami dolphins, the legendary coach i knew and thought he was an amazing rock of a human being and a great american, i can't imagine that bill belichick would say, okay, i'll just put my feet up and watch football when i'm that close to being the greatest winningest coach in nfl history. there are still seven head coach openings in the national football league. no idea where bill belichick might go, or who might want him, they might want to go with a younger man. we'll see. i think belichick would like to

just sports news, it's cultural news, because the nfl is such an important part of american culture, with the playoffs, of course, starting today. and so i think what it shows us is just how much we care about football, college in the case of nick saban, and of course pro with carroll and belichick. and i think, also, it shows the power of the incredible longevity of these men, the fact that, as you said, bill belichick has won six super bowls and he wants to do more. he's only 15 wins from the legendary don shula to become the winningest coach in nfl history. i wouldn't be surprised if we see him come back. obviously nick saban has said he's finished. >> what do you think about the new head coach, kalen deboer? >> i think this, amara, i think that anyone who follows a legend like nick saban is going to have

replacement. >> to see the new england patriots turn around and quickly hire jerod mayo, that was surprising. it seems the kraft family had a succession plan in mind, and that's pretty rare, right? >> well, it is, although it makes sense in this case, because mayo, it was in his contract, the succession plan last year. they announced a new contract for an assistant coach, which is incredibly unusual in the nfl. so at that point that signalled that mayo would be the replacement for bill belichick. i don't think many people thought it would come so soon, but the terrible season the patriots had, 4-13, i think that, of course, necessitated or hurried along the process to have mayo replace belichick, and he is the first black head coach that the patriots have ever had, and he's a former player, a former team captain, and he very much emulates and represents what the patriots are today. a wonderful statement for the national football league and the

the culture. i think just because belichick is leaving, robert kraft wants to maintain the patriot way. this would be a kinder, gentler, more friendly face. pete: because that's the one thing you're definitely going to want to preserve, the ethos of that organization. will: during any -- my childhood, they were one of the worst franchises -- pete: terrible. will: and now they're in the same tier at the 49ers, packers, steelers. pete: all right, how about this? alabama hires washington's kalen deboer to replace nick saban, another huge one. will: for my money, nick saban is the greats coach of all time, college or pro, and the reason why i would say that is say ban had to change with a changing roost -- roster every two or three years. belichick had brady, so you lose what i think is the greatest coach, you and go to kalen

go in as a pro football hall of famer on the first ballot. why? because he is the greatest coach of all times. well, tom brady agrees, posting on social media that he could never have been the player he was without belichick. the coach is now 71 years old but only 1a wins short of the nfl all time record held by the legendary don shula. so even though he's known very little other than new england, he's not retiring. i don't think there's much out there in the world that interests bill belichick other than football. if you want to talk about something other than football you'd need to find somebody other than bill belichick to do it with because that's all he's about. being part of a team, breaking down film, that still gets him up in the morning, gets him excited and i think it is the only thing he really cares about. former england manager sven goran—eriksson has revealed he has, at best, a year to live after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

to try to slow it down as much as possible and that's what i'm doing. and yorkshire cricket's former chairman apologises for racism at the club as his controversial return moves a step closer. hello again. he says he'll always be a patriot but after 2a years of historic success, bill belichick is leaving new england. regarded by many as the greatest coach in nfl history, he and tom brady took the franchise to six wins from their nine super bowl appearances, both records for a coach and quarterback. but, since brady left, things haven't been as good, and after the 2023 season handed belichick the worst win—loss record of his 29—year coaching career, belichick has parted company with the patriots.
