morning that any notion there was a split screen is off base. the conceit this would be a split-screen week was spectacularly a miss from the start. one screen would blot out all of the rest. our panel is back with us. you're nodding your head. >> we knew it. the minute he said i'm surrendering on thursday, he said, there we go. all the talk about the debate is going to be overlaid by donald trump. he's going to blot it all out. i think the debate itself also gave us another example of how challenging it is to beat donald trump. when you look at that field of candidates and some of the polling that's come out since then, it may not be a split screen, but it's a split field. there's not one consensus n non-trump candidate. so you could say vivek ramaswamy and ron desantis and nikki haley all helped themselves, but that's nothing but helpful for donald trump to have three

conceives of it is unified hole, even though there are many different aspects to conspiracy. a lot of cases a lot of people aren't even in contact with each other. that's the strength, as temidayo said, of the conceit of the rico case and the 19 defendants telling the story once. what do you think about the possibility of that? >> you mean try it alone or -- ? >> everyone says -- >> he's experienced this, i did, we did conspiracy. people drop off, because they plead guilty. they corroborate. they end up not with 19 defendants. sometimes you'll end up with a firing squad with them all shooting 80 at each other. why am i stuck with trump? i'm only the middle person. so they will not be 19 defendants on trial. >> that's a really important point. it brings up the next thing i want to talk about, which is about cooperation. to your point of, we're not gonna get to 19 because of some

including its after math, that made violence against the descendants of slaves literally routine in places like mississippi. but you can't understand that, before the lynching of emmett till without understanding the history and brutal legacy of american slavery. what it did not just to black people but also the ways in which it warped white society. the conceit that enslaved people developed skills while in captivity suggests that black people arrived in this country as uncivilized savages without value or humanity, and without slavery, they would have been nothing. it reframes slavery as an act of mercy, suggesting that african people were civilized by the people who kidnapped them, raped them, subjected them to forced breeding, and sold their children like cattle, and whose sons and grandsons were given a literal license to kill children like emmett till, as the wages of being white. joining me now is brent legs, executive director of the

as the senate majority whip -- it looks like a lot of democratic campaign ads being written last night. so that's an argument in defense i don't think is disingenuous, i don't think it's in bad faith, i don't think it's people doing it because they have to. you could argue plausibly that showing america what they will be getting is bad for trump's political prospects and therefore a good thing for the country. but i think that is wrong for a core reason. it's more fundamental than anything having to do with who it helps politically. the core reason last night was bad is the simple, undeniable truth that donald trump attempted to end american democracy, that man. he tried to destroy the foundational conceit of this country, the one we all celebrate, since the revolution of 1776, that the government is chosen by the people. and that we decide who rules over us, that we are not ruled by a king nor a strongman.
