the far-right to displace that frustration onto immigrants, which in fact what we need is a sound immigration policy to help solve some of the problems of labor shortages that europe will face two and the us is obviously needing to think about this instead, we re seeing quite the reverse that even the center is tacking to the right because of the pressure from this far-right s it would strengthen though. donald trump wouldn t it arguably in terms of foreign policy, because lead is like marine plant will lappin would be expected to closer to his alignment. and work more closely with him. and many of the far-right leaders du, identify with a lot of what trump says. so if he becomes president, he would have more allies in europe i think that s right. i think it s clear that donald trump has you mentioned immigration, one of the key elements of the right-wing campaigns appears to be inflation as well, cost of living and that s appears to be what has tapped into this election. a tapped into people and got them a lot of support, something that the mainstream moderate parties haven t really managed to do. and then this second issue, which was ukraine, which ties into it because of the cost of supporting ukraine. we don t know exactly where trump s stands on ukraine, but where does all that tie together? well, as you rightly pointed out inflation, low growth, stalled growth, the effects of that are highly unequal. we re seeing that even in the united states where the growth has been much stronger when jobs have been a job creation has been very good for the whole. but the effects are still so highly unequal and it s those voters that are suffering the effects not only of the invasion of ukraine, of the sanctions of the so-called poly crisis are our voice finding their voice through leaders that are mobilizing them around and gender that isn t clear will actually deliver for that the benefits that they need to see the question of how you invest in a way that distributes goods more across the whole of society is an absolutely critical when it s one that people on the left are thinking very seriously about. but the right has been much more effective in we have seen in the area. but again, bodies piled up in these overrun malls. we ve seen casualties being treated on the ground according to some eyewitnesses on the ground, ambulances weren t actually able to get into the area to provide support for those injured because it had been deemed a military zone in that environment had a contingent, of course. this is really stoked concern over really what the actual purpose of this operation is. in terms of the protection of civilians. we ve seen those warnings from world leaders at calling for the israeli military to do more to protect civilians over the course of their military operations, be that targeting hamas are trying to rescue of hostages held captive by hamas in gaza. but again, this is one of the deadliest attacks that we ve seen in recent days and weeks earlier to play into gantz s resignation. it did. he was due to announce his resignation on june the 8th. that was the deadline that was saturday. as a result of the rescue of four israeli hostages, which you ve just been talking about, of course, on the other effects of it, gantz postponed it by a de sunday evening goes before the cameras and announces his resignation but has gone. i think that you could see the war cabinet taking decisions which may be gantz would not have approved netanyahu is beholden to the right-wing more than he was quite because he d still has the numbers in the knesset, the parliament, his government is not under threat. his position as prime minister is not right now. the threat, unless his coalition parties leave the government, he s got 64 out of 120 seats and the coalition right now, next election, elections are planned for october 2026, but now, absolutely, he s more beholden than ever to those right-wing members of his government. and i think in addition to the war, the other thing that way of course, paying attention to is the ongoing hostage talks. now we had president biden come out couple of weeks ago with that ceasefire plan, which the americans say israel has already accepted. and the ball is now in hamas has caught israel likely to go forward with a deal that those right-wing minister s have already said would cause them to leave the government, leaving prime minister netanyahu the unpalatable prospect of elections, which opinion polls say that he would lose well, it s one would imagine that given what gantz has been saying that netanyahu is now acting more out of his own personal political self-interest. that that is something that would come into play even more with his peaceful, a peace deal or israeli proposal becomes more right-wing it makes it less likely to be achieved absolutely. and i m sorry, these ongoing attacks that we re seeing targeting areas or we know civilians are sheltering. i m making it more difficult. of course, when it comes to hamas is perspective on those ongoing ceasefire negotiations that s been the warning for some time now from regional leaders who ve been playing a key part in mediating talks between hamas and of course, israeli officials and the united states. we ve heard from egyptian officials just yesterday saying that because latest round of strikes on the nuseirat refugee camp will have a negative impacts on those ongoing discussions. we heard that previously, of course, with regards to the situation in an offer that any sorts of ground operation in rafah would scupper ceasefire negotiations. and what we ve seen, this supposed peace plan put on the table by president biden supposedly with the approval of the israeli government, calling for a peaceful exchange of hostages for palestinian prisoners. clearly, what we ve seen now is released. thankfully of israeli hostages. but at the cost of more than two hundred lives. of course it in gaza. and so that has really put concern four regional leaders, particularly in the middle east, who have been pushing for this piece band, the united states of course. but in more pressure on the israeli government and on hamas to both accept this peace proposal. but if we continue to see these rounds of strikes that we are seeing in gaza, where we aren t seeing these significant civilian casualties as a result, that is likely to suffer any sort of ongoing peace negotiations. and of course, we ve got blinken now traveling to the middle east, meeting with officials in both egypt and of course in israel and of course there is that mounting pressure from the us government, from the biden administration for both sides to come to a lasting agreement but clearly we are not seeing those movements on the ground with regards to any sort of attempt to actually push towards that peace plan. okay. matter, elliott. thank you both very much. us national security adviser for soon and then the ceremony will begin at the octave try-on. then there will be a parade, precession to the lose, a palace where biden, french president emmanuel macron will attend a working lunch and both leaders are expected to give statements to the press before macron welcomes the president. and the first lady to the famous musee d orsay for a statement dinner. the close ties between the u.s. and france will be on full display today as biden continues to push his message of saving democracy and freedom following his d-day anniversary speech friday cnn senior white house correspondent kayla tausche is live and paris this morning. hello, kayla. we are expecting to see the president at the moment for this welcome ceremony. a walk us through what we will see today well, hello, or should we say bones zhou are from paris, amara today after a point in few days in normandy, the red carpet is now being rolled out in paris where president biden and president macron will now engage in a series of events to deepen the collapse variation between the two countries on a number of fronts, you will see them momentarily arriving at the arctic triomphe with local school children standing by them, they will travel to the elysee palace where they will have a working lunch. the two liters there are expected to discuss two issues. in particular in great detail, the ongoing wars western ideology. they have grown much closer, but certainly president macron is keen to hear about president biden s prospects for reelection and whether as president biden has said, america is still morning for being with us. so let s talk about that speech that we heard from biden up on that famed clifftop obviously, there was some echoes of reagan s address at that same location in 1984 we heard biden there make his case for america s leadership in the world, but he also had a political pitch for those of us here at home. what did you make of what he had to say though he did not mention trump specifically? yeah, he was never going to mention donald trump by name. that would be a big headline because that would be a qbi accused of politicizing this historic memorial to these fall heroes and the people who actually were successful in storming the beaches. and so he has to walk a fine line between reminding americans and the world of democracies challenges today it s one of the top issues on the ballot in terms of what people of both sides think without making it too political and he can t make his entire election pitch all about democracy, given that a lot of americans face more common concerns about pain for bills paying for food and gas. and so they re not going about their lives thinking about democracy all day long. what do you think the white house is hoping will come up today s state visit with the french president well i think, the white house wants to send a message that the u.s. and france are aligned totally on ukraine. tried to see if they can move the ball forward in getting piece in gaza and israel. and i think they want also remind americans of the problem progress that they ve accomplished in terms of pushing back russia from ukraine. they ve had they have rare. this is one of their top foreign policy victories. but it s still uncertain and trump has said he is kind of less in zelensky s corner and people on the right are very skeptical of having a very drawn-out war and it s taken a long time to get weapons back to ukraine. and so they ve had to they ve had some tough spots in terms of zelenskyy is aides were saying, hey, one speech in normandy is not going to to help us out too much. we need weapons, we need training for pilots. if you look, just over the past several months, of course, macron and biden have been aligned when it comes to foreign policy, when it comes to the big picture with ukraine and obviously trying to prevent putin from expanding his empire. and of course the war in israel. but macron has taken a different approach and the way he thinks the western world should defend ukraine and also the way that he has condemned israel more publicly. what will you be looking for when it comes to their joint statement? well, they usually work these things out, weighing advance and there s not gonna be that much daylight between the two liters on major themes, the u.s. france or are huge allies. but i m going to what s interesting is that macron s team wanted a press conference joint press conference with biden. they turned that down. there is issues about an logistical issues they ve also had disagreements about china, france, macron has been more warm towards president xi and france has wants to maintain their commercial relationship with china more than the u.s. and i expect that to be talked about a little bit in their joint statement and in their private meeting what about their political calculations as both leaders meet today, i mean, they re both suffering low approval ratings, right? so if you could just give us context on both their perspectives as they have this meeting well, most people don t vote based on foreign policy or a meeting with a foreign leader, not as many french americans who are looking at this relationship, but i think that macron and many european leaders are afraid about biden s political standing they don t want to deal with donald trump one more this, is someone who has said to vladimir putin, you can do whatever the hell you want. if those, if countries are not paying their nato dues and so that is something that is macron can t endorse biden, but he s giving him a bear hug during an election year and this is biden s only state visit abroad during the seizure. and so of course it has good timing. but europe is afraid that it s going to get abandoned by trump, who is going to be more isolationist if he wins reelection, what is significant that you have president biden on this state visit during a very busy election year, daniel better relations with the biden administration. then the prime minister netanyahu gantz has actually gone to washington in defiance of the wishes of the prime minister but the fact that his party is not part of the ruling coalition means that his departure isn t necessarily going to result in the fall of the netanyahu government. it may however mean that the extremists in his cabinet will have for. i think that against this departure may result in even less moderate approach. when it comes to the conduct of the war david, betty guys gave netanyahu and ultimatum. he wanted to hear the plan to get the hostages back to israel. and what is the plan for a post-war gaza if he didn t get that, he was out on june 8th. he s not getting that and we ll get to that a little later. but what s the white? get house view of this likely departure well, on one hand, they are completely in gantz s camp. here it s the white house that has been pressing for a plan not only a short-term plan on the military sayyed, but an end game plan here for how gaza would be administered, for how long israeli troops would remain, four, how do you define the defeat of hamas? because as we learned after 911, you never completely defeat a terror group. obviously new members joined and so forth. but you want to get to a zero point, which president biden thinks he israelis arad right now, where the terror group cannot launch another major attack which of course is just what the president said the other day. so gantz s had much more of a direct channel back-and-forth with the pentagon, with secretary, lloyd austin, the defense secretary certainly with jake sullivan, and national security adviser and his departure is actually going to make it a little bit harder for the administration to talk to the war cabinet there are accustomed to ganz. he used to run the military. they consider him to be somebody who thinks and military terms and it s going to leave them more dependent on talking to essence kicks the can down the road forever and ever. and it does not come up with a plan and in essence says stalls everything so that he can not only maintain power, but keep the military operation alive for a very long time, a quickly david, how big of a threat politically is betty gods to netanyahu now outside of the war cabinet, if he does, it leaves a few months ago, we would ve said a significant one. israelis hold pretty highly for his opposition party but that has decreased some in the past couple of months. it ll be interesting to see if it comes back back now as he s operating together is kind of the way the country s really want to act in terms of ukraine now, when it comes to the actual fact of the matter, there on slightly different timetables. so it s not anything that can t be bridged but one of the things that the french have announced is that they are going to provide training in mirage 2000 jet fighters for the ukrainian armed forces and that is going to make a really big difference. in the war effort in terms of beefing up ukraine s air force that will be in conjunction with the team training that is already happening. i not only in the united states, but in denmark and there s also supposed to be a trading center in romania that is being set up with french health so these are the kinds of things that will be a part of the effort. now, in terms of artillery and air defenses, the french have provided and in the process of providing even more weaponry in that, in that area to the ukrainians the united states, of course, as also do this in the preponderance of military aid is still coming from the united states, but basically france is leading the european collision to support the ukrainian war effort and i think president mecole seize this as being really a very important bulwark that he s setting up an essence of buffer zone with ukraine at the center of this buffer between an expansionist, russia desire by russia to move forward to consolidate its power and in essence to challenge nato, france recognizes that any challenges to nato are really challenges to its sovereignty and instability to note, maintain its independence as a european power. but it also means that the french are willing to to some extent to shoulder more of a burden, at least in the political sense. now in the 5-methyl, since that s a different, a different issue nic robertson to you now, both of these men are watching the calendar and they know that the us is about five months out from that s not funnel election and the former president donald trump could possibly be in the oval office again, how much does that calendar and the potential for a change in leadership here in the us influence what is happening today, what will be decided and and germany and the baltic states and the new members like finland and sweden is that putin would massively try to exploit what he would perceive as a weakened nato because it wouldn t have the united states support that the money going into ukraine and the weapons going into ukraine could be faltering. so the clock ticks. there is nothing i drew. these leaders are perhaps less that president macron can do and maybe more that president biden can do in terms of finding ways to win the narrative and win the election in november. but the calendar is against both man and there are no assurances today that president biden can really give him emmanuel macron or any other european leader that are going to assuage their fears that an isolationist, the united states could be a reality they re dealing with by this time next year, of course, emmanuel macron tried to have a strong and positive i m robust relationship with then-president trump. but even that, despite his best efforts, faltered along the way. so there s a real realization macron has dealt with a president trump and knows the realities of the difficulty of how that relationship could be. so it s hard to it s hard to know what precisely the nature of the conversation, but undoubtedly it s going to be a topic and undoubtedly macron would look to biden any assurance and reaffirmation. biden s come confidence that he is going to win the election but at the same time, we ve also saved macron aggressively push for a self-reliance self-determined europe, and less dependence on washington. i want to thank all you, fundamentally, even on the post-war plan for gaza, it s not clear what but he has in mind because gantz, like netanyahu is opposed to the creation of a palestinian state. and he is opposed to the palestinian authority taking over gaza after the war as well. but clearly this is going to open up another gap in an all ready chaotic scene. and israeli politics and wait a min, joining us from mean for europe. but let s turn that around if right-wing parties perform well, what could that mean for relations with us? it s a really good question, and i think in terms of if it s still joe biden in 2024 the biden administration has maintained that they are committed to democracy, to human rights into working to ensure that the partnership, the transatlantic partnership is ironclad and that they were working in lockstep in fighting against russian aggression and they ll have to work with whatever partners are there. and you see that biden is in france right now. and though he and macron don t agree on everything, that they are showing a united efforts here that they do mostly agree on on the issue of russian aggression. and in trying to strengthen the european union but with the trump presidency, i think you re going to see quite a bit of disarray and chaos if you look at the far-right, this family group is probably one of the groups that is the least united and trump promotes disarray. whether it d be just this isolationists idea that doesn t really work for institutions, particularly intergovernmental institutions. and also the transatlantic partnership. there needs to be i guess something fighting against that rugged individualism that these far-right parties want to promote. so it would be very hard to predict what s going to happen. but what you ve seen is just at least the voting of some of the var of the far-right in the european parliament. they vote to basically support russia either refusing to vote against putin or russia. but they show their re capturing at what time is it being captured? i also think that gig worker is not being captured in this as well, people choosing not to come come back into the workforce as another thing. so where do you categorize those types of folks in those and also companies choosing, think about small businesses. if wages starting to go up, they re going to have less employees on w2, which means that they re going to probably go contractor roles. and so that gets reported differently as well. and then you think about some of these industries. where do you think of that job growth out of that report? it was health care government, leisure and hospitality. these are consistent with the trends that are growing where the other sectors are not and then there is this, i guess confusion on the stock market you ve got the magnificent seven. are these big companies outperforming, making record profits they re hiring obviously remains strong with small to medium enterprises suffering yeah, no, i think it was clear in this report in the last couple of reports that small businesses are struggling. i think when you mentioned that magnificent seven, you have to call out nvidia all, of, this, the record
