And 18 others. you think all 19 are going to go to trial or will we see plea deals before then? it seems all unlikely that all 19 would go to trial in a r.i.c.o. case it is not uncommon to see a large number of defendants charged but by the time you get to trial, that is in part because there is often a hierarchy in a r.i.c.o. case that is the definition of a r.i.c.o. enterprise that there is a kingpin at the top and people at the middle levels and there are underlings and often times the underlings see that they have a lot of criminal exposure but they have a lot of value to the government as cooperating witnesses. i can see some defendants ending up cooperating and paring down the number of defendants to a small number before the case goes to trial. charles, there are still 30, 30 unnamed co-conspirators, what do we need to know about that? what we need to know, as we are talking about everything in this indictment.
See. here is how the justice department explains the first criminal count as the conspiracy to defraud the u.s. quote, the purpose of the conspiracy was to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election by using knowingly false claims of election fraud to obstruct the federal government function by which those results are collected, counted and certified. the indictment then goes on to lay out the details of that conspiracy. with it the entire coup plot and donald trump s vast criminal exposure. the justice department alleges that donald trump, quote, enlisted six co-conspiritors. co-conspirator 1 is trump s attorney rudy giuliani. 2 is lawyer and coup plot architect john eastman assessment confirmed by his attorney. three appears to be sidney powell. four is none other than jeffrey clark. he s the official who tried to take over the justice department and did for a little bit and get doj to support trump s fraud

Them, presumably answered questions, that is notable. now we just got a statement from his spokesman ted goodman who said, quote, the appearance was entirely voluntary and conducted in a professional manner. so paula, do we know anything about the timing if the investigation is almost wrapping up? it does appear that way, alisyn. from all of our reporting on this side of the special counsel probe, looking at efforts to overturn the 2020 election, we always knew this was going have a longer timeline than the mar-a-lago documents probe because, look, there are more people, right, potential criminal exposure, more potential crimes. it s just a broader, more diverse array of potential criminal activity. but it does appear over the past few weeks we ve seen a flurry of witnesses going before the grand jury. we ve seen other activity that suggests strongly that the special counsel could be nearing a charging decision. so far he has not brought any charges related to january 6th, but appears that could be coming. it s completely unclear if rudy giuliani or former president
January 6th? yeah, well his lawyer said, without saying whether or not he cooperated, did say he answered truthfully any time any questions are asked of him. and that to me says that he actually did speak. because otherwise, he would have just taken the fifth, right? because he there is i think from january 6th, he was right side by side with donald trump the entire way. so he has a lot of criminal exposure. so again, we re just reading tea leaves, but i think based on what his lawyer said, he s cooperating. he s so high up on the food chain, prosecutors start with the lower-level people and move up and up. he s so high up, i think that investigation is also ripening towards the end. i think we could potentially see that case being brought in very short order, perhaps by the end of summer. jack smith knows he has to bring this case quickly, because the general election s coming and the doj policy is you can t affect an election just the timing.
