The Top 100 Albums Of 2020 (#20-1): Run the Jewels, Dua Lipa, Bob Dylan, More

Disclaimer:
I am only one man with limited time and, in 2020, I undertook a law conversion (hence the drop of in features in the winter), so if your favourite record is missing chances are I just haven’t heard it yet, so please share your favourite LPs below the line.
Equally, because I’ve been extremely busy, this list leans heavily on albums that I have reviewed (big names, big hype releases) as there are still a host of records I’m desperate to hear, but will not include without having listened to them in full (Thou, Pallbearer, Sasha Sloan, The Koreatown Oddity, Napalm Death, Thundercat, Idles, Against All Logic, Declan McKenna, Denzel Curry, 21 Savage, etc…).

“At times, they’re just bloody lovely, the glistery Madchester frescoes of Outside and Tomorrow for all the world sounding like the sort of pilled up escapism teenage hostages sometimes plump for, while the Berliner techno muscle of A.A.A.A. shifts to nihilism, distorted vocals and grinding low end sounding like the thoughts you might have inside your head if the surroundings didn’t have it in a vice. There’s also a deadly, playful air of provocation: Cook A Coffee is aimed squarely at the UK’s brillo haired, establishment shill Andrew Neil.”

Where to even begin for this year?
First of all, you’ve made it this far. Pat yourself on the back, because little did you know, you’re made of stronger stuff than you thought. That’s worth celebrating.
Second, COVID has yet to put a damper on the creative spirit, and right up there with our heroes working the front lines of the pandemic, we are grateful to our favorite musicians for saving this oft-dreadful year from being a complete wash. 2020’s musical offerings are plentiful and speak to every wild and disparate vibe this year has inspired: the good, the bad, and to put it bluntly – the boomerang effect of all of the above, turned up to 11.

ONTD Original: Top 10 Fiona Apple Singles.

ONTD Original: Top 10 Fiona Apple Singles.
To celebrate yet another accolade for Fetch The Bolt Cutters as Metacritic chose it as the album of the year, here is a ranking of Fiona Apple's top 10 singles according to the chaos I chose today for myself.
10. Shadowboxer from Tidal (1997) Any Fiona Apple music ranking will be tricky because it is all amazing, but her debut single was not as big as her later releases. The lyrics say everything you wanted to say when you were an angsty teen, but there was so much more to recover. Fiona once said that she used to play this song for herself a lot before releasing and it gave her a rush because she thought it sounded good, however she said that since then she stopped playing the songs for herself. The music video could have been so much better, also. Howard Stern saw this being performed live at his show, which he did not deserve because he is GROSS.

Fiona Apple's fearless and experimental Fetch The Bolt Cutters has been named music critics' favourite album of 2020.
The urgent, rhythmically complex songs on the US singer-songwriter's first record in eight years topped a "poll of polls" compiled by BBC News.
Phoebe Bridgers' sombre and sardonic Punisher came second, with Taylor Swift's Folklore taking third place.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's bass-heavy rap anthem WAP was named the year's best song.

Like so many artists, Margo Price had a, well, interesting year. The Nashville singer-songwriter originally planned to release
That’s How Rumors Get Started, her third studio album, in May before getting pushed to July. But 2020 had other plans. Her husband, Jeremy Ivey, contracted COVID, a devastating tornado crashed into Nashville and she was raising a newborn.
If you slept on Price’s latest project—which made our list of the best albums of 2020 — it saw Price inching more toward Southern rock and away from country. The album featured some of Price’s most intimate songwriting, touching on a rocky point in her romantic relationship when distance became a strain, the struggles of being a touring musician who loves the road but misses her family and motherhood.

The Homeless Gospel Choir's favorite albums of 2020

The Homeless Gospel Choir’s favorite albums of 2020
The Homeless Gospel Choir released a new album,
This Land Is Your Landfill, this year via Anti-Flag's A-F Records. They were also supposed to tour with Good Riddance, Death by Stereo, and Clowns in the spring, but COVID got in the way of that. Derek still played A-F Records' "Takeover Fest" livestream, however, and appeared on labelmate Jon Snodgrass' new album.
To cap off the year, we asked Derek what his favorite releases of 2020 are, and he made us a list, commentary included, featuring
Fiona Apple, Run the Jewels, Coriky (Ian MacKaye's band with his Fugazi bandmate Joe Lally and his wife/Evens bandmate Amy Farina),
