Big Tech Report Card: Amazon, Twitter, Apple Earn Industry Huge 'F'

By almost any measure, the first three months of 2021 were the worst ever for online freedom. Amazon, Twitter, Apple, Google, Facebook, YouTube and others proved to the world that the Big Tech censorship of conservatives is a reality.

Big Tech Report Card | Independent Women's Forum

The intrepid team at Media Research Center has a new report card out grading Big Tech’s actions during the first quarter of 2021, and it would make any parent shudder. Overall, the big six firms of Amazon, Twitter, Apple, Google, Facebook, and YouTube receive an “F” grade from the conservative media group.
The report by MRC’s Heather Moon and Dan Gainor is a comprehensive recap of many of the concerns that conservatives have with these powerful technology companies, from their policing of online free speech to user transparency to bias and responsiveness to user complaints.
MRC says it plans to issue a report card each quarter, and perhaps Apple will get a slight bump in Q2 for news this week that Apple will reinstate the conservative-leaning Parler app on its App Store following its ban since January. This news was confirmed in a letter Apple dated Monday sent to Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), made in a Twitter post by Congressman Buck.

Amazon slammed after banning books it says frames transgenderism as mental illness

When Harry Became Sally' author Ryan Anderson details the situation on 'The Ingraham Angle'
Liberal billionaire Jeff Bezos's behemoth online retailer Amazon is receiving fierce criticism after announcing it would no longer sell books that it says frame transgender and other sexual identities as mental illnesses.
Amazon announced the decision in a letter sent to Republican lawmakers that was obtained and published by the Wall Street Journal. Sens. Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, Mike Braun, and Josh Hawley had inquired why the online retailer pulled Ryan T. Anderson’s bestselling book, "When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment," which has been characterized by the Bezos-owned Washington Post as anti-transgender.

Is Amazon allowed to censor conservative books?

“We don’t let it directly determine what we publish, but the fact is, with every book, there is always fear that the book is going to be pulled. The authors feel very vulnerable,” said David Bernstein, publisher of Bombardier Books, a conservative imprint of Post Hill Press.
Conservative fears were realized this month when the book “When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment,” by Catholic scholar Ryan T. Anderson, vanished from the Amazon website three years after it was published.
Four Republican senators, including Utah’s Mike Lee, called the action “political censorship,” saying in a letter to CEO Jeff Bezos that “Amazon has openly signaled to conservative Americans that their views are not welcome on its platforms.”

Editor’s note: The death of Rush Limbaugh, the growth of Newsmax and charges of censorship by Amazon and other book sellers are among the forces shaking up conservative media companies. In this series, the Deseret News examines the challenges facing three forms of traditional media —
and book publishing — and how they might affect the companies and you: the reader, listener and viewer.
Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley lost a book deal. “Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling lost fans. And now, even as a prospective merger of two large publishing houses in the U.S. is rattling the industry, Amazon is deleting content it deems offensive from the world’s largest platform for book sales.
