with abc seven news meteorologist sandyha patel with a look at what we can expect this weekend. sandhya >> yeah, it is going to be a wet and windy tomorrow. larry and kristen right now on live doppler seven. you're seeing some moisture up in the clouds to the north of us. rain is falling up around crescent city and eureka. they're going to get hit hard. we are going to have our share of a drenching. it's a level two on our storm impact scale. as you look at the wider picture, one thing to keep in mind is that moisture stretches all the way out towards the hawaiian islands. so while there may be a spotty shower or two this evening, the main action is coming in while you're sleeping and then spreading at 9 a.m. you will notice tomorrow light to moderate rain moving through. we have our next round coming in in the afternoon and that is going to soak the bay area. this is also going to dump heavy snow in the sierra. 10 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. sunday. a winter storm warning goes up 1 to 2ft of snow. those gusty winds, snow levels actually rising so it may be difficult to impose. able to get up there. i would hold off
and again. let's not forget these funding fights keep on popping up. so if it's not this one that will do him in, it might be another one. >> well, let's talk about that. congress only has until midnight friday to pass something to keep the government running. speaker johnson has wavered about the idea of a continuing resolution or a cr to kick the can down the road a few weeks or a month. here he is in november, and then this week. >> i hate crs as much as everyone does. we're not going to do this again. we're not doing this under my leadership. i'm not ruling out anything, committing to anything. >> kristen, does a shutdown make any sense for the republicans? did they gain anything by, you know, saying we believe in certain things and we're going to shut down the government until we get it? >> i do not think it has any benefit to republicans at all because the reality is that the issues on which they say they want to shut down the government around the border, oh, we're
they're very family oriented. so i'm with kristen. >> they're also not knew. i saw "beatlemania." i'm pretty old. i loved it. i love these things. >> just not stanley cup -- >> i'm going to bring the stanley cup. >> finally, the nfl playoffs kick off this week. in perhaps the biggest game, the chiefs versus the dolphins, is only available streaming on peacock, not on network tv. the nfl certainly scored a touchdown getting $110 million in comcast which owns peacock for exclusive rights to stream the game. but this will be the first time ever a playoff game is not available on broadcast or cable tv. so kristen, are you as outraged as i am about this, and at the nfl's greed? >> i'm probably only not outraged because i think i already subscribe to peacock, so it's no extra money out of my pocket. i'm use today to paying extra because i pay for the nfl red zone channel. i'm a huge football fan. i can understand how if you are a football fan you're now like, wait a minute, i got to
tension here, i'm not so sure. >> then there is desantis who is all in on iowa. he has campaigned in all 99 counties. he has a big, strong gain there. kristen, what happens if desantis doesn't do well, if he -- if he loses by double digits and, god forbid from his point of view, if he actually finishes behind nikki haley. is he done? >> he does not have much of a path past iowa. he polls in very low numbers in new hampshire. he's kind of nowhere in south carolina where it's all about trump and all about haley. and the withdrawal from the race of chris christie has made it even better for haley which makes it even worse for desantis. he's right now got to be looking i think at 2028. he's very young. right now he's still very well liked by a lot of republicans. the problem he faces is those same republicans just like donald trump a little more. >> you seem to be saying he's --
on the border. would a shutdown at least show their voters, you know, we're fighting for your principles? >> i mean, this is what i -- i don't know that it's the crazy party. i think there's many members of congress in the house, on the republican side, who actually feel that this is insane and are tired of this. and they've spoken out against the freedom caucus. i think that that particular group, though, is willing to take things to the edge. their entire message is about if we don't set things alight, nothing's going to change. that is the message to the -- to the voters, that is the message to their own party. so i think we're going to be seeing this over and over again. i really do. >> they're going to lose. people in regular life have to compromise every single day. and when they see this going on and the government shuts down and people aren't paid, it is bad all around. and they will lose the message like kristen said. they will lose what the point is versus -- >> let's talk about the big picture here, unfortunately, that's not governing, that's
dangerous. and so, indeed, does the family of george carlin whose daughter says she finds it disrespectful. i think we're going to see more of this. the fact that ai is taking over and being able to represent people in ways they don't want to be represented -- >> after i knew you were going to say this, that people would be interested, it's an audio, not a visual. here it is. >> you know how much americans love reality tv? we love it so much, we elected a reality tv show host as president. [ laughter ] well, not we -- i was dead at the time. so you elected a reality tv show host as president. >> i got to say i'm not sure that sounds like george carlin. but it's an interesting and somewhat troubling development. kristen? hit me with your best shot. >> i love a good red carpet. the good news is if you love awards shows, the "golden globes" which were a week ago, they actually had pretty good ratings. bounced back after a tough 2023.
departments don't have to respond to everything. and i think what has to happen is they have to know when it's swatting or if a house keeps getting called. some people they call regularly. it's one of these games that they do on these online sites, and it's -- highly dangerous and traumatic to the people subject to them. >> and kristen, i mean, yes, it's been going on for a while, but there seems to be a new momentum to it. i'm wondering is this kind of a symptom, a dangerous mix of the growing polarization of our politics, as well as the dark side of the internet? >> what's so dangerous about it is if law enforcement shows up, they don't go what's going on. if you have somebody doing a ghd job but they're trigger happy, there have been bad, devastating consequences of swatsing. that's not today that political violence is new at all. you had the horrible shooting of gabby giffords, you've had -- you can about -- you can go back and find people with real mental illness who have tried to harm
course, this is adding to all of that. the big question is, how can he -- or if he can actually turn people out. particularly, because he has had to cancel three of thundershower f -- four events she was meant to hold. seeing how this was playing out, it seems to be a unique situation we're experiencing this weekend in iowa. >> unique indeed. thank you so much, kristen. let's go to you, jessica dean. you're following governor ron desantis' campaign. he's already held his first event of the day. what'd he say? >> reporter: well, fredricka, perhaps nobody has more on the line here in iowa than governor desantis. he's staked so much on this stake, and their whole game plan is to allow iowa to launch him into this primary. they are looking to monday for a very strong second place. obviously, they want to win, but if they don't win, they want to come in very close to donald trump to really make the case that december nesantis is the ae
they have pulled back all ads spending on attacking ron desantis. they are expressing confidence. i was told by one senior adviser sure, it will impact some undecided voters. but it's not enough to change the trajectory of the race. we also got a memo put out. they said it was confidential memo, written by their pollster to the campaign heads, put out by the campaign that said this isn't going impact trump winning in the state. but, again, as we know, they have been concerned about nikki haley. they are watching those numbers carefully. they are looking at the tabs in every single poll. as we have reported, erin, the team that is around him right now is one of the most disciplined to date, which means they are analyzing data looking through this, and there is a reason they are spending so much money going after nikki haley. so it's certainly not all a celebration tonight. anderson? >> kristen, thanks very much. with me is david axelrod and scott jennings. david, if the former president is publicly crowing about the
continually outperformed donald trump in new hampshire. it's a purple state. it is a state with a heavy independent. and by the way, it's an open primary. independents can turn out. democrats can vote. so i do think that there is a lane here. it's to turn out people who are not the ones who came out for trump, but who are active. >> he is the man for the ages. >> crushing it. there is glide paths. sununu comes out and you want to air walk. >> to kristen's point, chaos is trump's brand. he is not rung from it. he is embracing it. and chris sununu is playing expectation management. downplaying. we're not looking to win in iowa. we don't really care. so expectation management very important, because if she has a poor showing, she is toast. you heard chris christie say that. she's putting all her eggs in one basket. clearly new hampshire is a big win, big strong second finish. it's not a win to go to south carolina. >> and a final point. you got just two people on stage tonight. two people in all the time. it's a lot of pressure, and the first time they've been in that situation. >> well, they're both governors. so they've definitely had the
