Three months of curfew have not had any effect on the number of coronavirus-related hospital admissions in the Netherlands but the measure was needed to slow the spread of the virus, the head of the Dutch intensive care association has said.
Ernst Kuipers told television talk show
Beau on Wednesday evening that the curfew was an essential but ‘uncontrolled experiment’ which ‘had to be done’.
‘The calculation was that the curfew would reduce hospital admissions by 10%,’ he said. ‘But if you look at how hospital admissions have progressed during the period, you can see no effect through the introduction or the change in the time [from 9pm to 10pm].’

The World Health Organization-led team investigating the origins of COVID-19 during a mission that has been tightly-controlled by its Chinese hosts visited a hospital on Saturday in the central city of Wuhan that treated early patients.
On its second day after two weeks in quarantine, the team went to Jinyintan Hospital, where doctors had collected samples from patients suffering from an unidentified pneumonia in late 2019.
“Important opportunity to talk directly w/ medics who were on the ground at that critical time fighting COVID!”, team member Peter Daszak said on Twitter.

A World Health Organization-led team of experts investigating the origins of COVID-19 visited Huanan market on Sunday, the wholesale seafood centre in the central Chinese city of Wuhan where the new coronavirus was initially detected.
The team of experts arrived at Huanan on Sunday afternoon amid a heavy security presence, with additional barricades set up outside a high blue fence surrounding the market.
The WHO experts did not respond to questions thrown at them by reporters gathered at the entrance as their convoy drove into the market. The barricades came down as soon as they had entered.

Since the first clusters of the novel coronavirus were detected in Wuhan in December 2019, China reported more than 89,000 cases and 4,600 deaths.
An international team from the World Health Organisation tasked with investigating the origins of the coronavirus pandemic has visited a food market in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
The team was seen walking through sections of the Baishazhou market, one of the largest wet markets in Wuhan, which is known to have been a food distribution centre for the city during the lockdown last year.
On Saturday, the team visited Jinyintan hospital, where the first COVID-19 patients were treated. WHO team member and virologist Marion Koopmans said they got "stories quite similar to what I have heard from our ICU doctors".
