Blu-ray Review – Another 48 Hrs. (1990)

Blu-ray Review – Another 48 Hrs. (1990)
SYNOPSIS:
48 Hrs. with the same treatment for the underwhelming sequel,
Another 48 Hrs., for its high-def debut. Like the first film, the sequel only has the theatrical trailer and a conversation with director Walter Hill as its bonus features.
Since Paramount was putting together a 4K remaster of
48 Hrs., they decided to give its sequel,
Another 48 Hrs., the same treatment. Released eight years after the original, this film again pairs Nick Nolte as “I’ve had enough of this crap” detective Jack Cates with Eddie Murphy as wise-cracking convict Reggie Hammond. Technically, Reggie is an ex-con for most of this movie.

Blu-ray Review – 48 Hrs. (1982)

Blu-ray Review – 48 Hrs. (1982)
Directed by Walter Hill
SYNOPSIS:
Eddie Murphy’s break-out hit
48 Hrs. arrives again on Blu-ray, this time sporting greatly improved image quality thanks to a new 4K remaster, along with two new bonus features. It’s a worthwhile upgrade for those who have the earlier disc.
Paramount has been on an Eddie Murphy kick in recent months, presumably because of the recent release of
Coming 2 America on Amazon Prime. They issued
Coming to America on Blu-ray, and now they’ve remastered
48 Hrs. from a 4K film transfer for a new Blu-ray edition. (No word on a 4K release.)

Reggie: This ain’t no ***damn way to start a partnership.
Jack: Now, get this! We ain’t partners. We ain’t brothers. And we ain’t friends. I’m puttin’ you down and keepin’ you down until Ganz is locked up or dead. And if Ganz gets away, you’re gonna be sorry you ever met me!
Reggie: I’m already sorry.

Eddie Murphy stars as convict Reggie Hammond, and Nick Nolte as Jack Cates, the police detective who secures his short-term so that they can track down Ganz (James Remar), a violent escaped criminal and former member of Hammond’s robbery crew. Hammond hid the loot from the turn that landed him in jail, and he and Cates have just 48 hours to track down the money, Ganz, Ganz’s trigger-happy partner Billy Bear (Sonny Landham), and the girl they’ve kidnapped as collateral to get their hands on the cash. Hammond’s wise-cracking ways quickly grate the nerves of Cates, a curmudgeonly, bad-habited veteran detective with questionable, offensive diversity standards and a truly short fuse. From this mix arises an action film that unfolds at break-neck speed.
