10 Years of Valuing Nature: A Conversation With TNC
Ten years ago, Dow and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) set out to answer: How can we make the consideration of nature in business decisions simpler and more routine? Jennifer Molnar, managing director and lead scientist of the TNC’s Center for Sustainability Science, discusses how the collaboration has relied on science to answer that question and integrate the value of nature into business decisions that lead to better business and conservation outcomes. Find out what was jointly learned and what’s ahead. And, check out the latest TNC-Dow progress report.

SCS Global Services Applauds Release of New Report by the Un

CONTENT: Press Release
EMERYVILLE, Calif., May 3, 2021 /3BL Media/ - SCS Global Services (SCS), a global leader in third-party sustainability and climate certification, congratulates the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action (FICCA) for publication last week of its groundbreaking report outlining the processes that contribute to low carbon sources of cotton and polyester. SCS served as the neutral technical lead for the FICCA Raw Material Working Group, which authored the report. The Working Group engaged industry experts and textile and apparel organizations to complete the comprehensive study.
Polyester and cotton are the two primary fibers used in the textile industry, constituting 52% and 23% respectively of the total fiber volume produced globally. This report highlights the production changes that would be needed to align with the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement and move towards net-zero emissions by 2050.

Fabien Thibault, global manager, product and packaging sustainability at MilliporeSigma
Across industries, sustainability is becoming an increasing expectation. From reducing emissions to increasing recycling, both businesses and consumers are looking for ways in which they can reduce their environmental impact. But when it comes to products and packaging in the life science industry, developing sustainable solutions while meeting transit and safety regulation requirements is an ongoing challenge.
Now, imagine the complexity of executing this process for more than 300,000 products and 2.5 million SKUs along with associated packaging.

Scientists are studying the migration patterns of this Florida sportfish to protect its habitat
In February, Duke Energy and University of Florida teammates caught and tagged 20 redfish at Duke Energy's Crystal River Energy Complex, where Charlie Martin will monitor how the fish move in the power plant's discharge canal as part of a new study with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The team installed three acoustic receivers in the canal and tagged each of the fish so that their movements are recorded when they pass the receivers.

Economics of Soil Health Evaluated on 100 Farms by the Soil

Economics of Soil Health Evaluated on 100 Farms by the Soil Health Institute and Cargill

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., March 9, 2021 /3BL Media/ – Improving soil health can help farmers build drought resilience, increase nutrient availability, suppress diseases, reduce erosion and nutrient losses, and increase economic benefits according to recent Soil Health Institute research. “In addition to benefiting farmers and their land, many soil health management systems also benefit the broader environment by storing soil carbon, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and improving water quality,” says Dr. Wayne Honeycutt, President and CEO, Soil Health Institute (SHI). “However, investing in soil health is also a business decision, and information regarding the economic benefits of adopting soil health practices was limited until the Institute’s recent evaluation.”

Shake Shack Begins Using AirCarbon Cutlery at Select Locatio

by Emily Holbrook
Shake Shack recently announced the introduction of sustainable AirCarbon cutlery and straws from Restore Foodware at select Shake Shack locations in the US. The straws and cutlery will be available across all guest ordering services including walk-up window, drive-up window, curbside pickup, in-Shack pickup shelves, and delivery.
Shake Shack is introducing AirCarbon cutlery and straws at select locations by joining forces with Restore Foodware. The company launched the world’s first natural and regenerative foodware made from AirCarbon in late 2020, a biomaterial certified carbon-negative by SCS Global Services and Carbon Trust, showing it reduces  the amount of carbon in the air through production. As a natural material, AirCarbon contains no synthetic plastics, PLA or synthetic glues, requires no food crops for production and is home compostable, soil degradable, and ocean-friendly, degrading naturally if it ends up in the environment. Shake Shack locations in West Hollywood and Long Beach in California, Madison Square Park and West Village in New York, and Miami Beach in Florida will pilot the AirCarbon cutlery and straws, along with a new Shake Shack location in Santa Monica when it opens this spring.

How Accurate & Harmonised Product Data Streamlines Global In

Presently, it is near impossible to accurately estimate the number of products traded across global markets, and even more so to understand how many of them have unique identifiers and find each product’s history and associated details. Data inconsistencies lead to costly workarounds and manual alternations. For businesses, this can be harmful to operations and complicate supply chains. And for consumers, this lack of clarity can lead to a reduced or total lack of trust.
For us as a wholesaler, consumer trust is everything and it has become increasingly relevant in recent years, a shift heightened even further by the global COVID-19 pandemic, with trends in society and digital media leading to an increased demand for transparency. To bridge those challenges, we have been working intensively on a series of global projects for the past two years with GS1 and other members of The Consumer Goods Forum behind the Product Data Coalition.
