it arises. >> you can't do anything. you know, the very nature of being a public official is one where you need to press the flesh. you've seen it at the white house with the president. you have to get out and touch people. you have to be seen. you have to hear them and at the same time, you want as much exposures you can possibly have. you know the shots from rallies. you want the crowds close and up close next to the candidate. that's not gonna end. >> and ultimately, you don't want to appear imperial. you want to be a representative of the people because that's what you are. >> that's right. i think last month we were talking about the city council meeting in florida where somebody walked in, the gentleman that shot -- and fortunately, nobody died in that incident but in any of these public forums because of the system that we have and the government that we have, that's the situation. though i think gretchen, right before this when you were talking about the situation of there were clues that other people around loughner knew that
