wasn't always your chosen calling. you were a biomedical engineer? >> yeah. i kind of was always interested in music, in bands from 15 on, but it was never anything that i really expected to be a career. when i basically started college is when i started the girl talk project. during that time, i went to school for biomedical engineering and put out two albums in four years and toured during summer and winter breaks. it was something where there was never more of a fan base than 30 people in any given city. years later when it eventually picked up i was working an engineering job and it came as a surprise that i was actually going to have to decide between working versus doing music. ♪ the only purpose the only purpose the only purpose ♪ >> i put out my third album called "night ripper" and it started to get a buzz online and in magazines. i was working a day job monday through friday. and then on saturday and sunday i would fly out of town and basically do shows. they started to sell out. it turned into every weekend and all of a sudden i didn't have any time off. and i took a step back and said, i'm actually making enough money
