Supreme Court to debate TPS immigration case as Biden confronts border

That has vexed immigrant advocates and experts who note the White House proposed a bill this year to address the same issue involved in the case. The proposed U.S. Citizenship Act, which faces long odds, would let Sanchez and Gonzalez apply for green cards given their current status – no matter how they entered the country.
"Look, this is a no brainer," said Paul Wickham Schmidt, a Georgetown University law professor and former immigration judge. "Why waste time on it? The administration has indicated they'd like to regularize many [TPS beneficiaries] and...instead they're defending a gimmick cooked up by Stephen Miller," Trump's onetime policy adviser.

President Joe Biden’s nominee for Pentagon policy chief is a vocal opponent of sending U.S. military personnel to address the southern border crisis, a position that could pit him against Democratic senators from border states during his confirmation vote.
Colin Kahl called the Trump administration’s decision in 2018 to deploy troops to the southern border a "dangerous precedent" and a "stunt," and called on then-secretary of defense James Mattis to resign rather than carry out the order. The troops, who were sent to support Border Patrol with monitoring and intelligence operations, have remained at the border under the Biden administration.

Lawsuit: Biden Unlawfully Inflating U.S. Labor Market with Foreign Workers

6 Apr 2021
American professionals who were replaced by H-1B foreign visa workers are asking a federal court to strike down an Obama-era regulation that allows companies to outsource United States jobs to the spouses of H-1B foreign visa workers.
Save Jobs USA, made up of American professionals who were fired and forced to train their H-1B foreign visa replacements in 2015 by Southern California Edison, is asking the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for summary judgment to prevent an Obama-era regulation governing H-4 visa holders, the spouses of H-1B visa holders, which allows them to take U.S. jobs.

CO Lawmakers Pass Bill That Gives State Housing Assistance to Illegals

31 Mar 2021
Colorado lawmakers recently passed a bill that would provide state housing assistance to illegal aliens. That bill is headed for Gov. Jared Polis’s desk for his signature Wednesday.
If Polis signs the bill into law, it will eliminate the requirement for people to show paperwork to confirm they are legally in the U.S. to sign up for state housing assistance.
The bill, HB21-1054, would be the first law of its kind in the country, according to state officials, as reported by
Denver Post reporter Alex Burness.

Donald Trump has left. Supreme Court immigration cases went with him.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed challenges to Trump's "public charge" rule, a 2019 regulation denying green cards to immigrants if officials determine applicants may benefit from safety net programs, such as Section 8 rental assistance or food stamps. Biden rolled back some parts of the policy last month and directed federal agencies to study the impact of the broader Trump regulation by early April.
It marked at least the fourth time the justices have hit the brakes on major immigration litigation since Biden took office. In early February, the court canceled scheduled arguments about funding for Trump's border wall as well as his administration's "remain in Mexico" policy, which bars migrants seeking asylum from crossing the border.

WASHINGTON – Less than two months after President Donald Trump left office immigration has fizzled as an issue at the Supreme Court, with major disputes that became conservative rallying cries largely vanishing from the court's docket.
After four years in which Trump placed immigration at the center of his domestic agenda, prompting dozens of legal battles, the cases now pending at the nation's highest court are more likely to have started under former President Barack Obama and to involve technical matters rather than big picture policy questions.
