'WandaVision' checks back into the MCU | Arts + Culture

Nine episodes later and the Disney+ original “WandaVision” feels like a whole new show, ditching the intimacy of strange, satirical sitcoms for a familiar Marvel-esque ending.
In the context of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, this outcome is favorable. In terms of superhero storytelling, its epic finale is not particularly new.
Five episodes into the series, “WandaVision” balanced the bygone era of sitcoms like “I Love Lucy” and “The Brady Bunch” with side plots similar to “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Except S.H.I.E.L.D. is replaced by S.W.O.R.D., an American extra-governmental intelligence agency.

Classic Cookbooks: Cooking Price-Wise by Vincent Price

Vincent Price was many things: an art historian and curator, a philanthropist, a gourmet, and a celebrated stage, screen, and television actor. Of the 121 films he appeared in during his half-century-long career, only about 40 of them were horror movies.

“The reason, I suppose, that I’ve got stuck with the label of ‘horror king’ is that I’m so good at playing that kind of role,” Price explained. But that’s not
quite it.
Vincent Price was not only good at playing that kind of role, he was good at parodying himself playing that kind of role on some of the campiest TV shows ever made—

A Very Brady Sequel has less distracting '90s detail

A Very Brady Sequel (1996)
Those of a certain age will be alarmed to learn (or just sorry to be reminded) that
The Brady Bunch Movie, released in 1995, is now a more ancient cultural artifact than the original TV series had been when the movie came out. That distance inevitably undermines its inspired conceit, which placed the Brady family, unchanged since the early ’70s, in what was then the modern world. Juxtaposing their groovy threads and squeaky-clean sitcom personalities with hard-boiled “reality” fueled most of the jokes, which makes it difficult, today, not to be constantly distracted by elements that are nearly as dated: gigantic car phones,

As a comic book character, Wanda Maximoff has an origin story too convoluted to get into here. As a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she has an origin that can be boiled down to a simple idea: She is a child of television.

MTV's Remote Control: The definitive oral history

A raucously sarcastic take on the game show genre,
Remote Control burst onto MTV in 1987. Part of the cable channel’s first wave of non-video-centric shows,
Remote Control skewered vintage pop culture with its “mom’s basement” style set, cigarette smoking commentators, and questions about everything from physics to
The Brady Bunch—or a combination thereof. Contestants slouched in brightly colored Barcaloungers, were pelted with snacks between questions, and got pulled backward through breakaway walls upon elimination. Host Ken Ober (who died in 2009) held court with an everyman sneer alongside announcer Colin Quinn, while comedians like Adam Sandler and Denis Leary popped in to ask questions in guises such as “Stud Boy” or legendary animal trainer Gunther Gebel-Williams. It made both no sense and total sense.

Here's How 'The Simpsons' Brought Back the Late Marcia Wallace to Say Goodbye to Mrs. Krabappel

When Marcia Wallace died unexpectedly in 2013, “The Simpsons” producers were caught by surprise. It was decided that Wallace’s character, Bart’s teacher (and Ned Flanders’ second wife) Edna Krabappel, would also pass away. But executive producer Al Jean said it always bugged him that Wallace and Mrs. Krabappel didn’t get a proper send-off. Until now.
On Sunday’s installment of “The Simpsons,” titled “Diary Queen” (the show’s 696th episode), Bart discovers Mrs. Krabappel’s diary and discovers how much she really believed in him — and it inspires him. The episode features Wallace’s voice, taken from previous episodes.
