>> rick perry had a tough night last night. he was on the defense most if not all of the time. it was a tough exchange over the hpv vaccine that he had with michele bachmann. now, mitt romney did pretty well. he downplayed his liabilities on health care, he played up his strengths on jobs and the economy and ignored the tea party crowd in the hall. now, michele bachmann, the clear winner last night, tea party favorite, had recently taken a big dip in the polls and she got back into the conversation in that exchange with rick perry and perhaps this will put her back in the game. >> ter >> tara mergner, thank you. the first republican gop endorsements are in this morning. tim pawlenty. as tara reported, the president is traveling to ohio today to try to sell his $450 billion jobs plan. to pay for it, the president wants to reduce taxes for people earning $250,000. he wants taxes on big investment companies called hedge funds and advance corporate benefits. >> the american jobs act aren't going to answer the debt, it's fully paid for. i want to repeat that. it's fully paid for. it's fought going to add a dime to the deficit. next week i'm laying out my plan not only to pay for this jobs bill, but to bring down the deficit further. >> those tax hikes have already been rejected by republican leaders. >> the money has to come from somewhere and, of course, it comes out of the pocket of taxpayers or the government borrows it and it eventually has to be repaid with taxpayer dollars. >> speaking in the rose garden yesterday, the president said this is a bill the congress needs to pass. the u.s. actually has some smaller small business cuts going on in this country. the 34%, the lowest of all nations. al qaeda posted a new video marking ten years since the 9/11 attacks. the hour-long video features the current al qaeda leader. the video includes never before seen video of osama bin laden before his death. on the cbs money watch, toyota loses a big portion of the market while asian stocks go other ways. >> japan's nikkei rose almost 1% while hong kong's heng second was off sharply, mostly 4%, but that was mostly a reaction to china's inflation robs. wall street is trying to make it two up days in a row. a late day rally sent stocks higher for just the second time this month. the dow gained 69 points while the nasdaq tacked on 27. investors had a mixed reaction to bank of america's downsizing on monday. the company announced it was cutting up to 30,000 jobs and cutting annual spending by $5 billion. b of a shares closed up 1%. most analysts want more details how the banks will make the cut. toyota will lose a preliminary court battle over unintended acceleration. a federal judge has tentatively decide not to dismiss the first of hundreds of lawsuits facing the automaker. toyota has recalled 14 million vehicles due to acceleration problems and brake defects. the trial is slated for sometime next year. student loan defaults are at their highest since 1997. the number of borrowers fell behind there are payments rising for the fourth year in a row. the department of education has started an income-based plan at 15% of discretionary energy. we end with a survey of british citizens that is somewhat startling. it turns out being on facebook is more important than a cup of tea, a shower or even a toilet. participants were asked what they could live without. sunshine was first. i think my priority might be a little different. but i know you like baseball. >> you do, too. coming up on "the morning news," a new miss universe. plus, caught on video. a man smuggled a taser into a football game and used it. as the president rolls out his plan to put america back to work, we asked some of the country's most powerful ceos how they would create jobs and fix the economy. that's tonight on the "cbs evening news." insides?
