whether they were there. i don't know what time that happened. a lot of misinformation for three weeks on that. >> bill: on that point they have been hands off and they've kept it away from talking about it until now. >> dana: now we know and that's a good thing. u.s. is confirming what israel has been claiming all along. hamas uses tunnels beneath hospitals. the cover has been blown. the idf is updates overnight. we'll start with the al-shifa hospital where israeli forces conducted an early-morning raid targeting what they say are tunnel entrances for hamas, the group in control of gaza. i want to give you the play-by-play of how it all unfolded and how we found out. late last night i received a text message from a senior hamas official inside gaza saying in a few minutes the hospital will be stormed. we then reached out to the israeli military. they didn't have any information but ultimately released a statement saying they are storming al-shifa hospital, gaza's largest medical facility to go after hamas militants. we have gathered more information this morning from top intelligence and defense officials in israel trying to get an understanding what the focus and efforts were for the israelis. you can see in some video here one of the main objectives for israeli forces was to deliver medical aid to palestinian civilians, around 600 patients at the hospital and 1200 internally displaced palestinians sheltering in place there. the israelis delivered aid to those palestinians and they also went after hamas militants. they say they killed four militants around the hospital gate before entering the facility. once inside, no bullets were fired. this is of note because it indicates hamas fighters and leadership used the tunnel network to get to the southern part of gaza knowing the israelis were going to raid the facility. all of this is taking place amid ground fighting inside gaza. israelis say they took over the camp in the northern part of gaza a hamas stronghold. we go to the south of gaza with the half yeah crossing, the border between egypt and gaza. a fuel truck passed into gaza. there are conversations taking place behind the scenes not only to try to diplomatically get some of the hostages freed but more aid into gaza. >> bill: thank you, in 20 minutes we'll talk to a member of the, idf and show viewers what is beneath the hospital in gaza yes or no. >> right now that's operation is ongoing and thank you for having me on. we went for something very specific. we had intelligence. this is not as going all out or coming to conquer the hospital. this war will be a long war. because of the severity and sensitivity of the hospital and again the cynicism of hamas we all understand here, how they are using and man whip liesing. i was inside the battle in a hospital two days ago. there was one tunnel nearby, some armor, a bike. this will take time, bill. we won't have -- we went in, kill the terrorists and that's it. we went in because we understand the sensitivity of going in there. after we did everything we can to tell the people to leave we brought medical teams and special unit inside a specific area to the hospital to do what we needed to do. it is a very sensitive intelligence operation. what will unfold during the day. our forces are still there as we speak. >> bill: it will take some time. do you know where the majority of the hostages are today? >> the hostages are a very sensitive, painful topic being handled at the highest level of government. as a man in uniform that is out of my lane. i'm focused mainly on our two operational targets. one, we have to dismantle hamas and two, get our hostages home. and i was in a hospital again and we saw again the cynicism of this enemy. we saw indications they had hostages there. because we were so careful and saying we have to get the people out, the terrorists probably moved out of there and probably moved the hostages, too. >> bill: last question, sir. i appreciate your time and we'll see how it develops over time. can the idf allow these doctors and hospital workers to evacuate patients who are being treated there? because if you could, you would have in all likelihood a better operation to operate there. >> absolutely. that's a great point, bill. we've been seeing this since before it even started we were saying move south. hamas has a responsibility. i am looking at the coverage, they are moving around in cars. we even opened a safe passage up until the action last night from the hospital and the road so people can connect to these humanitarian corridors down south. they still have the capability if they come out and say we're not part of hamas and move. we'll make sure they move. we aren't fighting the patients in the hospital even though we went in last night. >> bill: have any patients been taken out of that hospital leading them to better safety and care? >> well, there is good news for president biden and there is bad news. i think the bad news is what a lot of people are registering politically. inflation, even though it's been contained, is still at very elevated levels. both the polling, the models, the economic models show that voters are very upset about the higher cost of goods, the higher cost of groceries, the higher cost of what it takes to buy a house, higher rates of mortgages. so that is why you are seeing biden's economic numbers so low. a lot of people also don't hear a concerted message from the white house other than bidenomics and other than the notion of some of the small legislative packages they passed. they don't feel the president is feeling their economic pain, an important part of any campaign and any re-election message. the good news for the president is what you say, bill. that the stock market has been hot lately. you have unemployment low. it has been low for quite some time and you also have signs that inflation has been contained. it is still at an elevated level but it is not looking as bad as it was forecast a year ago. in fact, the worries about a recession in 2024 is not looking likely at all. there is a lot of things the white house can work with to talk about ways they've actually gotten the economy back on track. but boy, inflation, inflation, inflation is still a major issue for a lot of voters. >> bill: the point about obama. there is time. on the topic of republicans right now, it seems as if nikki haley has some momentum. i want to show you the polling from the first three states. iowa trump is at 43%, she and desantis are tied. you go to new hampshire trump is almost 50%, haley leads desantis by eight. south carolina trump 53% and she leads desantis by 11. what we are talking about here is potentially a battle for the silver medal or does she surprise in one of these early states to get more people to look at her along the way? what do you think of that? >> well, she still is lagging behind donald trump but she has done very well at the debates. she has been the political star on the debate stage. she knocked out ramaswamy. she surged past her south carolina colleague tim scott and now neck-and-neck with ron desantis in iowa and national polls. she looks like she has the silver medal close in hand. the challenge for haley, very far behind trump and a question of whether republicans want that kind of candidate. >> bill: we'll have more time next time. thanks for coming by today. thank you. >> dana: the biden administration is extending a waiver to give iran access to $10 billion. we'll tell you more when we return right after the break. ee i hid from the camera. and i wanted to hide from the world. for years, i thought my t.e.d. was beyond help... but then i asked my doctor about tepezza.
