>> hello neil, that is a great question, especially because extreme heat is the number 1 weather-related killer into this country. last year we had more than a hundred thousand visits the er because of heat related injuries. what can you do to protect yourselves? not just hydration, its proper hydration? you want to make sure you're staying hydrated before, during and after any exposure to heat especially prolonged heat. that means getting enough electrolytes, water, drinking milk, you can also get hydrated by the foods that you eat? example watermelon, oranges, grapefruit, cucumbers, that can help keep you hydrated. from anyone at least 3 liters of fluids, hydration a day, for women it's about 2 liters, very important. also make sure it is -- if it is a high heat index, 90 degrees, limit your time on doors. stay indoors in air-conditioning. if you don't have accident air-conditioning, go to the library, go to the mall, go to your neighbor's house. it's aborted we keep our bodies cool, clean and dry. he also want to make sure that if you are outside that you protect yourself, what is that mean? number 1, make sure you understand that a medicine that you're taking, for taking an antihistamine or if you're taking a diuretic, this makes you more vulnerable to heat related injuries. also check the color of your urine, dark color urine is an indication your dehydrated, want to make sure getting again enough fluids if you have a dry mouth, extreme thirst, the a headache kind feeling faint or dizzy or weak, this assigns?
