we're looking at three continents looking at heatwaves. and we're looking at so many triple digits. but the heat index is what your body perceives. feels like 106 in wichita, 109 in st. louis, 105 in nashville and really warm in phoenix. and in many, many spots across the east, it will feel like 107 tomorrow. like 99 in new york city. i extended out a bit earlier and it feels like the wet blanket on you. and that is where it is really taxing. so nice to see president biden asking for that alert hazard because we're looking at people who need to be outside. police officers. firefighters, farmers who need to be outside, so we need to have that in place that protect them. we have the heat in place and

everywhere. where yes see the purples, those are temperatures that feels like more than 100. if you get to the corn belt, it's so humid. feels like around 115. so really dangerously hot temperatures here across the central plains. that's expanded to the east. a little break. maybe across parts of california, arizona, phoenix again. you're in your 27th day above 110 degrees. that's blowing all kinds of records out of the water as well. tomorrow, will feel like 107 in kansas city. the heat remains there. this is that break i'm talking about, neil. start to see a cold front move through here. the highs in to the upper 70s around chicago. you get a breeze off of the lake. take a look at this excessive heat warnings in effect including new york city. it's been about two years since we've seen that. tomorrow will be worse than today. saturday maybe cooler. sunday is when the big relief comes in from places like philadelphia, new york, boston.

of the heat has been bottled up in the southwest because of the heat dome. and actually a trough of fairly cool air in the eastern part of the united states. that is all about to change. 99 degrees on the thermometer tomorrow in d.c. that's not heat index. and that's not in the sunshine. all of that heat is beginning to spill off toward the east. and that's going to be a problem for new york city. excessive heat warnings for you there. look at this. past month, 5,300 record highs have been broken. as we move on, another 170 likely to be broken before we make our way all the way through the weekend. the heat is on in many places where it hasn't been on. st. louis, you'll be above a hundred. that's ten or degrees more so than you should be. new york city, you'll be 95 on the thermometer but probably 105 to 107 with the humidity. now you add in standing on the concrete or the asphalt working outside, it's going to feel much, much warmer than this.

really warm and you have got the humidity. so 107 in st. louis. 100 in nashville. and that's going to come up towards the mid-atlantic and northeast friday. look at that 100 degrees is what it is going to feel like in new york. 106 in columbus and. the average is 85. 95 on thursday. and then as we get into the weekend. cooler air moves. in that's short lived. not the same story for parts of the south. we are getting some of that monsoonal moisture in towards the southwest and that's cutting back on those temperatures. we could see severe storms today across the upper midwest as well as sections of the northeast and the mid-atlantic where we could see some hail damaging winds and heavy rainfall that could cause flash flooding and there is your forecast high so you can see the temperatures are warm. it's feeling like summertime across much of the lower 48. over to you, steve. >> steve: all right, j.d., thank you very much. >> janice: you got it. >> steve: meanwhile, coming up. do you hear that? that's the sound of freedom
