an intelligence source. our affiliate kcal got this exclusive video, and appears to show the suspect handcuffed to the stretcher. the suspected shooter lived in l.a. but was from new jersey. chris lawrence is in pennsville where the suspect's family lives. so, chris, what has been going on outside the home? >> reporter: well, fred, the police have been posted outside the home since yesterday. the family was inside since then talking with officers. a lot of confusion over why this happened. probably asking a lot of the same questions about what, if any, signals were there. the police are telling -- or i should say, the family is telling police they didn't see any. they say they did not know that paul ciancia had a rifle. they say there was no history of mental illness. they say paul was back here over the summer for a wedding, and at
the affiliate kcal. the wounded man is thought to be ciancia. cnn hasn't been able to independently confirm this. you can see what appear to be his wrists handcuffed to the gurney. he was shot several times in the chest. as of last night, he was treated at a local hospital. paul ciancia attended a catholic high school in wilmington, delaware. he lived across the river in pennsville, new jersey. what are people in pennsville telling you about ciancia? >> reporter: allison, they're basically saying this would make a whole lot more sense if this were a mistake that it turned out to be the wrong guy. i talked to a guy last night he never heard of any radical ideas about ciancia. the family is telling police that they did not know that he owned a rifle. they say they had no indication

reports of shots being fired there. this according to local police. airport officials say a police incident began at around 9:30 a.m. pacific time. that would be 12:30 p.m. eastern time at terminal 3 at l.a.x. that according to a spokeswoman for the airport. one passenger robert perez who was getting ready to fly virgin air was taking a nap in the terminal when panic erupted. he told cnn affiliate kcal, cbs. he said this "i heard a popping sound and everybody was diving for cover." perez told the station the tsa said there was a shooting in the terminal and evacuate the building. he said at least 100 people came running down the staircase. everybody he said started to panic. the passengers were directed to a bus and taken to a smaller terminal. this individual robert perez, a passenger told our affiliate and there you see emergency personnel fire department folks,
