    The Nigerian Army has announced a date for medical screening and pre-deployment training for 319 troops for a peacekeeping mission in Guinea Bissau despite the rising cases of insecurity across the country.   The troops are to begin their pre-deployment training on May 15, 2024 at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peace Keeping Centre (MLAILPKC), Jaji, Kaduna state, an internal memo seen by SaharaReporters revealed.

Several Workers Trapped As Building Collapses In Kano

    Several workers are reportedly trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in the Kuntau area of Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.   At least 11 persons are trapped under the rubble, Daily Trust reports. It was learnt that two persons rescued from the collapsed building had been rushed to the hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Some corpses have been reportedly recovered while efforts continue to rescue more people trapped under the rubble.

    Justice H.H. Kereng of the Gombe State High Court in Gombe, the Gombe State capital, has sentenced the President of the National Association of Charcoal Producers and Exporters (NACPE), Edu Babatunde Azeez, to one-year imprisonment.   Azeez and his company, Ablims Limited, were convicted after pleading guilty to two counts of conspiracy and obtaining under false pretences, upon being arraigned by the Gombe State Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Terrorists Shoot Nigerian Army Commander, Major Mohammed, Dead In Katsina

  The Nigerian Army Commander of 17 Brigade, Operation Hadarin Daji, Major Ag Mohammed, has been killed by terrorists in Katsina State. Katsina is the home state of former President Muhammadu Buhari. A security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post on his X account on Friday, said that Major Mohammed who served as the commander of Operation Hadarin Daji covering Yantumaki, Dan Ali and Kankara axes was killed on Thursday in an ambush by the terrorists.

Nigerian Correctional Service Confirms Abduction Of Prisons Assistant Controller In Niger State

    The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has confirmed the abduction of an Assistant Controller, Abdulraman Ibrahim Gelele in Niger State.   Gelele, who was attached to the Niger State command of the service, was reportedly kidnapped along Minna-Ilorin Road on April 17, 2024.   It was learnt that the abductors made initial contact with both his family and the NCS command in Minna but later cut off communications.
