the other side of the river. >> he's now essentially going back to that. >> well, i think you have to look at the reality of what has happened over the last four years at the border. he's acknowledging that and he's acknowledging that there has been an increase and he's doing everything in his power to try to mitigate that. i think but i think the other thing to think about here, why think there are two things? first of all remember, he doesn't have to win voters who say that the border is their top priority yes, to mitigate some of the damage. right. i mean, he doesn't he the majority of voters who say that the border is their top issue are republican voters were going to vote for trump there's absolutely a cohort of swing voters who are concerned about it. but you know, he's not, he doesn't have to actually win those voters. he has to limit his damages here secondly, i would say don't forget, donald trump is not absent from this narrative. the way donald trump talks about immigration is also incredibly alienating to some of these models threat and swing voters talking about immigrants are poisoning the blood of the country, calling them vermin so as this conversation unfolds over the next five months donald trump

bill problem. probably the most stringent and significant piece of proposed legislation on this issue in decades. and republicans walked away so by taking executive action here, no biden can now say, listen, i i wanted to do a bipartisan deal republicans didn't want to come to the table and participate in the solution. and so my hand has been four first and i'm going to do everything that i can alone to take this on. so i think it's important contextually to think about the fact that this comes after that bipartisan conversation fell apart. it's frankly, i think it strengthens biden biden's hand in this conversation because he can say we tried to get this done. they were all well, i'll talk and no walk so now i'm walking the walk. >> i've been i think the challenge though, jonah, is that the president has otherwise said, well, i can't do anything about the border. i can't fix it. i need congress. so congress tries congress fails and then all of a sudden he is now saying, well, actually, i think the argument republicans are going to level out them is why don't you do this like months ago? >> yeah, it's a look. i'm actually sympathetic to the idea that the president can't
public schedule for today, but there is a major gap between 10:00 a.m. eastern when he gets his daily intelligence briefing and 6:15 p.m. when he and the first lady host a congressional picnic. take it as you will, you guys. back to you. >> steve: got plenty of time. >> brian: someone has got make the sand witches in between if you are going to have a picnic. >> ainsley: we heard about this because a lot of the mayors down on the southern border saying he invited us to the white house. a few are going to the white house. >> lawrence: democrat mayors. >> ainsley: brownsville. >> brian: he has a previous engagement. >> steve: we no, i do not know if until we hear it from the president himself, sounds like the magic number is 2500. once 2500 migrants come any single day they will shut things down. either return them to their home country or to mexico. >> lawrence: can you imagine the surge that is going to happen. anybody celebrating black friday when they say hey, got 100 tv's.
they are going to allow 2500 people in between ports of entry with the border reopening only once the number declines to 1500. this is going according to people familiar with what is he going to roll out. if you are unaccompanied minor you get in regardless. i understand humanitarian perspective but if that is in fact the fact, people send more and more kids through who eventually send for their parents if they don't get lost. so your thoughts about those numbers? >> sure, 2500 again that's just the border patrol illegal apprehensions and, again, that is authorizing a level of illegal crossings that we have never seen before. and i think it's important to remember that obama's dhs secretary said 1,000 a day you are at crisis level. so this is, you know, 2.5 times that that the biden administration is talking about. but, it also doesn't prevent the biden administration from continuing to push these individuals to ports of entry. and so you really have to look at all the different ways cbp 1
give lawler well, it's unconstitutional executive orders. i feel that way about student loan forgiveness. i feel that way about moratorium on rent president biden said that the supreme court tried to stop me on student loan forgiveness, but i didn't let them. well, maybe he should let them because it was unconstitutional, was trying to do is similarly, i think that there's colorable, decent argument that he can't do this stuff at the border that the republicans were wrong about it. i think the republicans in congress should have passed the border legislation and so now we're just gonna see both sides sort of reverse and the left-wing base is now going to say this is an outrageous executive order. he doesn't have the authority to do it and the right is going to say he does have the authority to do it, but it's too little too late. >> but of course i mean, of course it would've been better to do it through congress. i think biden would say that. i mean, you saw this executive order challenged in the courts under the trump administration. i mean, this was not his first choice but again, absent republicans playing ball on this, he's left with no other option. one thing that stuck out to me in this furnish is that they actually seem to have
cases. joining us now former acting dhs secretary chad wolf. obviously is he doing this because of the election, chad. but will this plan actually stop the surge at the border? >> yeah, i don't believe it will for a couple of different points. but, first, look, they have been telling the american people that there's no crisis along that border now for three years. and then they have tried to convince the american people that they can't take executive action and we have had somewhere between 10 and probably 13 million illegal aliens cross that border. and now five months out from an election, now they are serious about border security. i don't buy it, i don't think the american people buy it. but there are holes in this plan. this plan does nothing to stop the asylum abuse. does nothing to stop the parole abuse that this administration has done. nothing to stop catch and release. is i see a lot of different holes here. i don't think it's going to work. it's too little too late. >> brian: just so you know. we don't know exactly. i will give you some of the things they are leaking out that
