following years of crime surges in america, related to the pandemic, and tensions over social justice, new indications tonight that the tide of violent crime may finally have turned. cnn has compiled numbers from major cities, in the five biggest cities in the u.s., home cite rates were way down in 2023 from the previous year. a drop of more than 10% in all those cities. >> folks who have been in and around law enforcement for decades, i don't think we ever would see increases like that. >> reporter: they dropped last year. >> these numbers tell us we are turning the corner in crime. >> reporter: in baltimore, 2023 was the first year the city saw fewer than 300 homicides in almost a decade. detroit experienced the fewest
