holy father is a focus on a broad array of values, particularly social justice doctrine, that i think is prevalent to the franciscan part of the catholic church, the jesuit part of the catholic church as phil indicated, about service. the pope has leaned heavily into refugees, into climate change and the impact of climate, into poverty and social justice issues. and those are areas that the biden administration has leaned into strongly as well. i think what you see from both is a recognition that the holy father's position on this is very, very clear, that's not going to change. but there's a wide variety of values that unite president biden and his interpretation of the faith and that of the holy father and we could focus on those rather than others that seek to divide. >> by the way, the holy father stands on who should receive communion, also very consistent, hasn't changed one bit. he feels very strongly that all should be able to receive it. phil mattingly, joe kennedy, congressman, thank you both so much. >> thank you. >> more now on two traditions, the one established by john f.

The Jesuit congregation of Chile admitted that a number of its priests had sexually abused 64 people, 34 of whom were children, between the years 2005 and 2020, documents showed.
An internal investigation by the Society of Jesus found 11 Jesuit priests guilty of "abusive situations with sexual connotation" involving underage victims, the Agence France-Presse reported, citing a report from the Catholic order obtained Tuesday.
According to the report, five out of the 11 perpetrators have died, while three are "currently under strict professional supervision plans." The other three "are no longer part of the Society of Jesus," the order said.

More than 2,500 influential Indians have signed an open letter demanding the release of jailed elderly Jesuit Father Stan Swamy after a special court turned down his bail application.
The court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), a federal anti-terror combat agency, on March 22 refused to grant bail to 84-year-old Father Swamy, ignoring his ill health, age and other difficulties he is facing in jail.

The Jesuit order is pledging to raise US$100 million for descendants of enslaved people once owned and sold by their order as a way to make reparations and also help the nation move toward racial healing.
The funds will be placed in a new partnership called Descendants Truth and Reconciliation Foundation formed by the Jesuit order and the GU272 Descendants Association -- named after the 272 enslaved men, women and children who were sold by the Jesuit owners of Georgetown University to plantation owners in Louisiana in 1838.

US: Jesuit Priests To Pay $100M For Slaveholding
'Our shameful history of Jesuit slaveholding' in US has been taken off the dusty shelf,’ says Fr. Tim Kesicki.
A US Catholic order has reportedly pledged to raise $100 million for the descendants of the slaves it once owned and sold by creating a foundation.
The New York Times reported on Monday that the Jesuit priests' foundation described the move as "one of the largest efforts by an institution to atone for slavery."
"In a landmark undertaking in the pursuit of racial healing and justice, descendants of ancestors enslaved and sold by the Jesuits and the Jesuits of the United States have announced a partnership to create the Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation," the Jesuit priests said in a statement.
