>> well, i mean, those challenges are considerable. he has to rebuild his authority. he has to rebuild his popularity, or shore up his popularity. i think that's what we're seeing the kremlin try to do in this latest sort of media event that's appeared on television. look at this. this is the russian president in dagestan, which is in the south of russia, and he is being absolutely swarmed by adoring fans who are cheering. they're trying to touch him. they're trying to get selfies with him. remember, vladimir putin is a leader who has been in power in russia for 23 years. you'd think they'd be a bit, you know, kind of would be that dramatic that he appeared in front of him. but no, look. he is out there. he is being treated like a rock star. and it's all the more unusual of course because you don't see this at all from vladimir putin over the past couple years because of the pandemic, because
possible details as to the location an who was there. we know off duty service men went there sometimes but it is part of russia's playbook in this war, firing heavy weapons into civilian areas an sometimes they think what they hit and most of the time they don't care who they hit provided they terrify those who live there. erin. >> yeah. certainly seems in this case it may have been quite purposeful indeed. thank you very much. and let's go now to russia inside of moscow where our correspondent matthew chance is tonight. and mathew, the kremlin put out a video tonight of putin among a crowd of cheering supporters. this is the video that they put out but it is him out and about in some way. it seems unusual. how unusual is it? >> reporter: yeah, he's down south in dagga stan, in the -- where he's been visiting today. i mean, it is highly unusual. they're treating him like a rock star. look at it. it is incredible. all of these people have turned
he could be a very hard witness to corroborate. but i think those two sides probably have very different objectives in that meeting that we're told was cordial and business-like. >> we shall find out more, i'm sure. katelyn, what else are you learning about trump's latest reaction to the audiotape cnn obtained of him discussing the classified documents case? >> two separate investigations, but audio tapes really are at the center of so much of what we're talking about. inform this special counsel's case against donald trump, criminal case related to mar-a-lago documents, donald trump keeps offering these explanations after he was indicted on what he had, what happened in july 2021 where he is talking and waving around and saying this is a secret document i have from the pentagon. and the latest thing he said was he was waving it around. it was bravado. i was talking and just holding up papers and talking about them, but i had no documents. i didn't have any documents. so he had papers but not
and trying to understand what actually is happened? >> what is happening? >> there is no shortage of opinions from experts as to who, what, why. prigozhin, careful military man, business man, but the most important is putin is weakened. it's like the spied never the jar. the one who will get out of it will be wounded and weakened. >> but you need to be careful about people like prigozhin. be careful what you wish for is what we say in the west. >> we have no mistake. but the problem is that they started looking for the sort of better project. he was treated like a rock star. look at the bureaucrats. they say the security council was immediately available to support putin on tv. look at the military commanders.
