election. we've learned that pence did speak to ducey multiple times about the election, though he did not pressure the governor as he was asked. this was first reported by the "washington post." with me now to talk more about all of this is michael zeldin, a former federal prosecutor. thank you so much for joining us. can i ask you about the legal significance of this reporting that doug ducey was called and we knew the calls happened early on. what we did know know was what the content of those calls was. now we're learning it was pressure from donald trump, according to sources, to get him to overturn the election in his state. your thoughts? >> it's very similar to what happened in georgia, which is there is a phone call made by the president or phone calls made by the president to try to pressure the governor into

rather it's they said and he denies. it's important to know who all has knowledge of it at the time it was done or immediately thereafter. >> it's corroboration that you need when you don't have the actual call. we also know that mike pence had called the arizona governor many, many times, but did not pressure him to overturn the election. you have to wonder what mike pence has already said if those questions were asked of him. so much to unpack. michael zeldin, thank you so much for coming on. >> thanks for having me. coming up, hundreds of new laws take effect across the country today from abortion to lgbtq rights. we'll break down some of the biggest cases, next. start by . skip the rinse and load your dishes. 24 hours later when yoyour dishwasher is full, let fifinish quantum clean your dishes. if the stains aren't gone, your lasagna is on finish.

so like calling a spade a spade, and they're taking off the table the possibility that there will be motions to say we want this evidence, we want this evidence, and you're withholding this. here it is, kitchen sink, you've got everything. let's go to trial. >> and what do you make of the conversation now around where this trial is going to take place, in the miami area, it's more of a conservative population in general. is that concerning if you're a prosecutor? >> i don't think so. i prosecuted in miami for several years, and we never had problems getting convictions in miami, and i think fort pierce where judge cannon sits is a conservative political base, but it's also a law and order sort of working class staten island-like jurisdiction, and those jurors understand the rule of law. they understand jury instructions, and so i think it's really much ado about nothing. if they have a case that they can prove to a jury, a fort pierce jury, a broward county jury, a miami jury will all convict. if they don't have the case, it doesn't make a difference. >> thank you so much for joining

there are new developments in the criminal case against former president donald trump for mishandling classified documents. the judge overseeing the case has now ordered attorneys involved to obtain security clearances for classified information. to see that classified information. with me now is michael, a former federal prosecutor and a host of the podcast "that said," thanks for joining us today. i want to first ask you about the judge's order for the lawyers involved to get those security clearances. i cover national security and i know it can be a lengthy process for a lot of people. the authorities probing into your background and asking all kinds of questions. for these lawyers, what will be involved in this process? how difficult is it going to be for trump's lawyers to get those security clearances? >> well, it's a cumbersome process. and it is an exacting process,

charged with taking 31 classified documents. some were top secret and most sensitive secrets here. the lawyers who represent him need an active clearance. so the judge urged them yesterday to get that process started and they have. they have reached out to the justice department to begin that process. t that could take several weeks but the full legal team is not decided. it could take days an maybe even weeks to pick another lawyer or two to add to this team and then they need clearances. so this is a while before they begin landing over classified dovery. >> and when you see the 31 documents, extraordinary levels of classification and secrecy. paula reid, thank you. joining me to discuss, michael zeldin and sarah matthews, thank you both for joining us. michael, to you first, as paula was just mentioned, president trump, former president trump still looking to add another lawyer to his team. how difficult that going to be for him and how much of a time

a different jurisdiction. >> and sarah, in terms just of stepping back an looking at why the former president is running to be president again, he would only get four more years. what do you think is really the driving factor here? >> i think that by running for president he could potentially pardon himself of any crimes that he may face or convictions for any of these investigations. i mean, you look at it, we already have two indictments potentially more coming down the road. and so he knows that he had legal trouble and so he's hoping that he could get back to the white house and probably potentially pardon himself and any of his allies surrounding him. >> the case in georgia, the january 6 case, also being led by jack smith. still very much out there and certainly weighing on the former president. sarah matthews and michael zeldin, thank you very much into coming up, we have a report from sudan, atrocities and potential war crimes and a troubling link to the mercenaries waging war in ukraine. stay with us.
