33 dead in 48 days: Police "disturbed" by horror road toll

Acting Chief Superintendent Ray Rohweder described Queensland's rising road toll as "disturbing" and has called on all road users to step up their game and simply "do the right thing".
A total of 33 people have been killed as a result of traffic crashes across the state this year - 15 more than the same time last year.

"I find that quite disturbing," Acting Chief Superintendent Rohweder said.
"We really need to get the message through to all those drivers out there using the road network that they need to obey the road rules.
"It is the driving public who decide how they conduct themselves on the road."

COPS' HOLIDAY PLEA: Don't become a Christmas fatality

WITH just one fatality for the Gatton District this year, police are hoping that number won't increase this holiday period.
More police will be enforcing the fatal five this Christmas, with heavier traffic expected following the coronavirus pandemic that halted family visits.
Acting officer in charge senior sergeant Dan Curtain said police could not reduce the road toll on their own.
"We need assistance from the public to achieve results in the area," he said.
He said more people were wanting to travel and local police had already noticed an increase of traffic on the roads - especially the Warrego Highway.

Patricia G. Lane, obituary

Patricia G. ‘Pat’ Lane.
HOPE — Patricia G. ‘Pat’ Lane, 84, died peacefully at home, Thursday, December 10, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in New Jersey, March 29, 1936 to Louis and Florence Singer Smith.
Patricia started her life in Maine at an early age. On March 25, 1968, Patricia married Adelbert Lane in Rockland. This is where they spent the rest of their life.
At an early age, Patricia began work at O’Hara Fish Plant where she became one of the fastest red fish cutters. The conveyor belt couldn’t keep up with her pace and fish had to be delivered directly to her work station. At the age of 40, she earned her nursing certificate and was employed by Knox Center for Long Term Care where she eventually retired. Patricia was a caregiver through and through even after retirement, serving as a private duty nurse for many local families.
