ILO calls for resilient occupational safety, health systems for future emergencies

ILO calls for resilient occupational safety, health systems for future emergencies
National
April 29, 2021
Islamabad: Countries need to put in place sound and resilient occupational safety and health (OSH) systems that would minimise the risks for everyone in the world of work in the event of future health emergencies, says the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in a report, released on World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
This will require investment in OSH infrastructure and integrating it into overall national crisis emergency preparedness and response plans, so that workers’ safety and health is protected, and the business continuity of enterprises is supported.

NHS workers will need help to manage the trauma of the pandemic

Author:
Neil Greenberg
(MENAFN - The Conversation) Life during the pandemic has been difficult for most of us. But there's no doubt some occupational groups have had a particularly tough time, especially NHS workers.
Many NHS staff have dealt with inordinate numbers of critically ill patients. Some have been trying to provide care in a far from ideal situation, knowing that doing so will lead to poor outcomes for their patients. This is having an impact on their mental health.
My recent study of staff working in critical care during the pandemic showed they report more than twice the rate of probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) found in military veterans who've recently experienced combat.

or don't they? and -- >> the ones who waited when tracked later in life turn out to be more successful on almost every dimension. >> a finding stumbled on. walter mitch whole originally did the marshmallow test decided to track them 30 years later, every measure, academic, occupational, income, staying out of jail, these kids who actually waited the 15 minutes, did better. the question is, are there cultural factors that induce that. that strengthen that kind of wi willpower and impulse control and there are. >> my question about this, first of all, it's very pleasing to hear that indians are supposed to be part of this group because i'm an indian-american, but what i wonder about, is if there is something within the culture that makes, you know, people of indian origin succeed, how come india has been such a mess for so many hundreds, maybe thousands of years, same could be said of china, if these are
