a pretty malign character. you were nasty and abusive. how easy is it for you to find ways to play these difficult, troubled, sometimes deeply nasty people? because i don't play them as particularly nasty people. i...think there's just unhappy people in search of happiness and scott in happy—go—lucky, and the husband, the abusive husband in tyrannosaur — both had similar purposes. they both wanted to be loved. scott was basically what we would call now an incel. you know, these people exist on social media now. social media didn't exist then. and when we were doing tyrannosaur, olivia and i were given case studies of men who were abusive to their wives. and one of the striking features of these reports was that all these men wanted to be loved. they just. .. and that's a more frightening aspect. when you play that, when you play someone who wants to be loved and show the vulnerability at the same time as doing evil things, that's really challenging
>> now, let's break this all down with our great panel this morning. seung min kim from the associated press john breath man from punchbowl news, and olivia nude see from new york magazine. morning guys digest lot to get through the course of this busy our olivia, i want start with you because you actually been a cover in the courtroom watching donald trump as they began the jury selection process. what has been your observation about but how he has dealt with this, especially as they're raising some of these salacious details and they've gone through the jury selection process. how has he been dealing with this in the courtroom? >> i don't think any criminal defendant is happy to be there and fairness, but he seems particularly not happy to be there. he seems to have a very difficult time sitting there and doing nothing all day long. and it sort of seems like he's chomping at the bit to get out of there to the extent that he was reprimanded by the judge when he tried to jump up and have a seat at the end of a session on friday and leave apparently, the judge leaves first. i did not know this and neither do donald trump and he seems very frustrated and
fact that they keep coming, every time you get shot down you just keep saying reconsider, like that is not normal. >> that relates to the question i want to ask you, olivia, as someone who is covered trump for a while now. there are people in his circle who will say sometimes anonymously and sometimes like bring it on. everything seems like he really doesn't want to be there, doesn't want this to happen. >> clearly doesn't want to be there. i've seen him a lot of different settings, in the white house, trump tower, mar-a- lago you name it, i spent a lot of time with this man and i was really not prepared for the sight of him in that courtroom today. it's this very drab space with terrible lighting and all kind of neutrals and he comes in technicolor orange and with the golden hair and the sky blue suit and he looks unreal, like a poppy flower or something in the desert, and it is so strange to see him in that context but no power. he kind of sprung up at the end of this hearing after his
