cartel country? professor, i think this is a great question considering that a fair amount of the taliban's revenue has literally come from the drug trade, from opium. the drug trade, from opium >> yes. opium was the -- the lead export up there for -- for some time. look. here is the issue. they are desperate for -- for cash, right? and one of the things that they're concerned about is that there is money toez spob coming from the international community, including the imf, which might be frozen. so that's going to be an issue for them. so you are going to say all the right things but again this is a sea change and it's going to affect a variety of relations. china has already reached out to them. russia is trying to fill in the vacuum. but the bottom line is it's going to be a rough road for them, financially. although, they do come up with a lot of equipment. real quickly, remember they were able to -- to fund and pay their

number three, i will just say if he governed texas and oversaw the -- the welfare of his own citizens half as well as he governs his own health, then texas would not be rationing icu-level care. so he should practice what he preaches for his entire people, not just for his own body. >> before i have to let you go as a professor of health metrics, i presume you are very happy to hear the cdc announce it is reestablishing its disease forecasting center. explain what this would mean in terms of fighting covid and other diseases. >> you know, one of the biggest things that we need, joshua, is eyes on what future threats are going to look like. so we need surveillance capabilities. we need people looking at this data at a trusted institution, like the cdc. analyzing it so we can forecast threats. and then, i -- i -- ideally, be prepared in ways we were not prepared in february of 2020. so centralizing this process. investing more in genomic sequencing so we know when the next variant is arising and where it's arising. this is great because this is going to centralize that capability here in the u.s. and hopefully provide a -- a model for other countries to follow.
