come. that yellow crime scene tape is for law-abiding people who are going to recognize that as a do not enter area and not pass. we saw the u.s. capitol police set up a bike rack that was -- actually use as projectiles against us. so, my hope is there going to have more security rolled out at some point tonight or tomorrow. i would have eight foot non scalable fans like we have around the capitol every inauguration. that takes some time to set up. i don't think they will get that up by tomorrow. i'd be pretty concerned based on what shimon was just showing us. >> how strong of the oath keepers and proud boys now, as compared to january 6th? and have the prosecutions of the leaders of those organizations had any impact? >> i don't know intrinsically how strong the membership is. what i can tell you is that with the leaked oath keepers roster that we saw last year, what is concerning for a lot of us in this business is that there are individuals in positions of public trust, law
some of it is the language. some of it is where they're posting it. and some of it is really based on good old-fashioned tips and leads. so goes back to if you see something, say something. a lot of these individuals we saw on january 6th were actually turned in by family members, a loved one who saw them on television. so, what we would need right now is to engage the public to really help defray any issues that may come about. waiting for government to solve your homeland security problems is obviously not going to really play out really well. >> we saw a new york lockdown in a remarkable way when trump was arrested there. just now with shimon, we saw some yellow police tape there. it's shockingly different. if you are responsible right now for keeping the peace tomorrow, what is going to keep you up tonight? >> we saw that at the same time. i can only hope there is a better security posture that's going to happen tonight or tomorrow before the protests come. that yellow crime scene tape is for law-abiding people who are going to recognize that as a do
attorneys with him, and this is todd blanche and chris kise and those are the two attorneys as he is trying to finalize his legal team. wolf, one thing that i will note as we have been outside of the courthouse here for several hours, and what you are hearing from our colleague shimon, is that you are hearing a growing crowd of the supporters out in front of the courthouse. it is not clear that he will see them, because it is not clear that we will see trump, but they are keeping an eye on the security in front of the courthouse, and still several hours before trump shows up to the courthouse. >> we are hoping that it remains peaceful, and kaitlan collins is in miami for us. thank you very much. erin. >> all right, wolf. cnn getting exclusive video of trump inside of the doral resort surrounded by fawning fans and the body man walt nauta, the co-conspirator at the doral resort. randi kaye was there, and she is
just allowed to go as if nothing is going on here, and it is a little shocking to me. >> shimon, we still have five hours and there are busloads of supporters expected from orlando, and any sense from the people you are talking to how large the crowds may get out there? >> they don't have a sense on exactly what the crowd size is going to be, and there are a lot of people on social media, and other chatter urging supporters to come out here, and so that is what is concerning them, and they are anticipating a lot of people, but they don't know if it is actually going to happen, and the miami chief police said that there is nothing to fear, and they are ready and prepared to handle up to 50,000 people he said yesterday. so we will see how this goes. >> shimon, it is great to have you there on the scene and providing that show and tell and the perspective that you pr pro provided. initially, it looked like a lot of press. but from what you can see, is
we're not seeing any of that here tonight. obviously and hopefully, that is going to change tomorrow. today, police really would not talk about their plans. they just said they're going to be ready. and they say that people should not fear anything, others to be prepared, erin. >> well, shimon, thank you very much. jake, it is amazing, right, they just didn't have much warning. so, you know, you see right now, you don't see a lot of security, but you could see tens of thousands of people there tomorrow. >> not difficult to imagine, unfortunately. joining us here at the table, doctor donell harvin, former chief of homeland security for washington, d. c., along with john king, jamie gangel, elie honig. and i know we have a lot of questions for you. so, i will take to, and i'll let everybody else ask questions about your expertise. because obviously, just for people who don't know, you are sounding the alarms from homeland security for d. c. before january 6th. and sadly, a lot of your alarms were unheeded. the rhetoric online that we're seeing now, that we're hearing now, not just online, but you know, publicly from members of congress, et cetera, how does it compare with what you saw on january 6th? >> so, currently what we're seeing is not the volume of rhetoric we saw on january 6th, but that shouldn't give anyone comfort, because a lot of these individuals have stopped posting things, what we call open source. and we collect open source intelligence and what we call
whether he is getting that job is still in flux, john, but it is speaking to what the former president is facing as he comes here today to utter two words not guilty. he is going to have of course a long stretch ahead of him as that team is working on the legal strategy, and the republican allies are working on the political strategy of what all of this is looking like, john. >> we have camera looking at the ground shots around the courthouse from where you are, and there are three distinct groups. people protesting in support of trump the, and a few counter protesting against trump the, and then the media. to be honest, three to four cameras for every protester there, but things can change. what's the vibe where you are? >> things can change, and that is really important, and what you have heard from our colleague shimon, is that he has said that based on what he has seen at any other event and something as highly charged as
trump, and flew ahead of them ahead of the court appearances, and right now, he is on high alert of potential threats, and they are saying that they are ready to handle the concerns, but there are no barriers to separate the trump supporters outside of the courthouse in miamik and that is where we begin with cnn reporter shimon prokupiez and also our court correspondent paula reid. shimon, what are you seeing on the ground with the security? >> at the moment, wolf, you can see the officers from the miami police pushing us off, because they are investigating something on the other side of this yellow tape. we were all gathered over there for a little while, and then all of the sudden, the police came in and said everyone had to clear the area, and there was media gathered over there as
on the bikes riding through, but the thing that is a little concerning for law enforcement officials that i have talked to is that there is no separation between the groups. the supporters of the former president and those protesting him and sort of like none of those metal barriers that we have seen in other situations. >> well, shimon, you say that some of the law enforcement sources say it is concerning, because we are not seeing the barriers put up just yet. >> yeah, i mean, i am surprised, because i was in manhattan when he appeared there, where donald trump appeared when he was arrested a couple of months ago, and completely different situation. you had met al barriers placed all around the courthouse, and the street that the former president was driving into, and walked completely blocked off, and we are not seeing any of that in this situation. it is very open, and people are
flags, and we will see what the police discover here, wolf. >> shimon, once you see what is in the suspicious package, or what is being looked for, we will get back to you. and paula, the truly historic moment, the first time a president has been arraigned for criminal activity. >> and it is interest, wolf, because as shimon laid out, there are dozens of supporters here, and system of them celebrating the indictment, and you have world media and lot of wildlife here at the court, and roosters walking among the protesters, and it is a circus-like atmosphere, and we are here for a serious and solemn occasion when it is the first president to be arrested and indicted on criminal
and tell. thank you for that. but it is really interesting how sort of quiet it is there. if that changes, let us know. we're going to go now to some experts on these and other issues. national security attorney mark zade and former deputy fbi director andrew mccabe. let's start with you on what you say from shimon. does that surprise you? >> it's a little surprising that you don't see more of a physical presence being developed, barricades coming out, vehicles blocking certain streets to access parts of the courthouse. you may still see that by the end of the day today. sometimes 24 hours before the event is when you see that -- those hard changes come into play. we'll have to keep a close eye on it. i'm sure they're coordinating closely across those law enforcement jurisdictions that shimon mentioned. we have to wait and see what happens. >> let's attorney some of the legal issues and, of course, the political issues that go with
