corps of engineers says it could decide intentionally to break that levee holding back major floodwaters. >> reporter: that's one of their actions, contessa. their concern now is how to protect some of the homes along the black river here. you can see already how many are threatened. in fact, a thousand people here have already evacuated because there is such a serious threat. 15 inches of rain in four days. 6 inches of rain yesterday alone. and more rain on the way today as we said, a thousand people now evacuating their homes and the mayor and chief of police here are very concerned that there could be more. they are saying that it is a miracle that this levee has held. it has been topped in 30 different places. but they're saying it is just too risky for anyon to go on and fix that levee. they're watching the skies, watching the water and watching the levees and hoping it will hold. as you said, the army corps of engineers is looking at different ways that it might relieve the water pressure, hopefully before any more homes or businesses are damaged here.
