The Trump wrecking ball is warming up

It should have been clear long ago to even the most fervent Trump supporter that Trump is — and always will be — all about himself. GOP Senators thinking Trump will be cowed are just whistling past the graveyard.

If Graham and his colleagues are not now regretting their acquittal of Trump as a necessary first step to formally barring him from any federal office, they will be soon. It is clear, and quite predictable, that Trump stayed quiet during impeachment — but he was just playing possum.
Trump will not — and can not — leave the stage. The idea that Trump would willingly surrender the spotlight and all its attention and money is utterly absurd. To do so would also be an admission of defeat — another impossibility. Any Republican leader thinking Trump is going to fade away is either a fool or living in a world of delusion.

Rush Limbaugh Dead at 70.  Talk radio legend
Rush Limbaugh passed away Wednesday (2/17) at his home in Florida at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer. First diagnosed in February of 2020, Limbaugh told his national radio audience in October that his cancer was terminal.  Limbaugh’s impact on not only the issues-oriented talk radio business but on media in general was profound. At the height of its popularity, The Rush Limbaugh Show laid claim to 20 million weekly listeners according to longtime

Premiere Networks. His influence on other forms of conservative media – especially cable news/talk television – can’t be underestimated.  Greater than any other single talent, Limbaugh was widely credited for not only reinvigorating the politically geared talk show, but also for prolonging AM radio’s very existence. The aggregate amount of revenue he generated for operators of AM facilities carrying his daily talk show is nothing short of astonishing. After a decade of bouncing around from market to market as a top 40 DJ, Limbaugh took a PR position with the

Cassidy pens column explaining vote to convict Trump

The Louisiana Republican slammed Trump for not activating the National Guard and not instructing the mob that overtook the Capitol to back down “at the first opportunity,” saying he instead waited two hours before requesting the rioters leave.
Cassidy noted that because Trump decided not to testify in front of the Senate, he relied on the timeline, Trump’s tweets and his actions when determining his vote. The senator cited the former president’s promotion of unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud, failed legal battles to overturn the election and his speech to rallygoers shortly before the Capitol breach.
“I voted to convict former President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy said. “That’s what the facts demand.”

Does America possess the desire and capability to defeat its own Fourth Reich?

Fanatics Against Sanity and Conscience Instigating Sedition and Treason).
Today America has two.  Thanks to the treacherous votes of forty-three senators, coupled with a plethora of Congressional representatives, and reinforced by officials who censured members of the moribund Republican party for having the "audacity" to believe that impeaching a mendacious, racist, unhinged lunatic, who incited insurrection for self-serving political gain, was the patriotic thing to do, America is now left with the Democrats and the Fascists.
Think about the depraved insanity of this:  Forty-three United States senators basically told their colleagues, including the former Vice-President, that even though many of them were mere minutes away from a brutal death at the hands of a mob unleashed by Trump, and that he gleefully watched this mob's actions on television instead of sending help to quash it, this does not disqualify or render him unfit to hold future political offices.

Collins: Trump 'incited an insurrection' to prevent transfer of power

"That attack was not a spontaneous outbreak of violence. Rather, it was the culmination of a steady stream of provocations by President Trump that were aimed at overturning the results of the presidential election," Collins said from the Senate floor.
Collins was one of seven GOP senators who voted on Saturday to convict Trump of inciting an insurrection. Though senators fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict the former president, it marked a significant bipartisan rebuke of his actions.

Collins, during her floor speech, laid out a timeline for how she believed Trump had been priming the political atmosphere for the eventual violent mob by repeating false claims of widespread voter fraud.

Former President Donald Trump was acquitted by the US Senate on Saturday on an article of impeachment that he incited the deadly US Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6.
Fifty-seven senators voted in favor of conviction, but a conviction needed 67 votes. Seven Republicans joined all 50 Democrats in voting to convict Trump.
Republican Sens. Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse and Pat Toomey voted in favor of convicting Trump.
Democrats were hopeful that had Trump been convicted, a simple majority of senators would vote in favor of permanently barring Trump from ever hold federal office in the future. As it stands, Trump is eligible to hold federal office again, and could run for president in 2024.
