Edward Ball’s great-great-grandfather, Polycarp Constant Lecorgne, was a racist who sought to restore white dominance in Louisiana during and after Reconstruction in the wake of the US Civil War. A Creole from New Orleans whose ancestors hailed from Brittany in western France, Lecorgne was a “hero” of his times because he fought for “whiteness” in the service of the white supremacist cause.

Nemours/A.I duPont Hospital for Children to change its name this summer

Delaware's children's hospital will change its title this summer, eliminating its benefactor from the name as the health system looks to become more of a national presence.
Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children will become "Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware," officials announced Wednesday. The overarching health system will become Nemours Children’s Health this August. The Orlando hospital will become Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida.
“Mr. duPont's name is by no means going away and by no means going to be any less emphasized,” said Dr. Larry Moss, CEO of the health system. This name change comes at a time when Nemours is launching a five-year strategic plan.

theartsdesk Q&A: Musician Dan Treacy

Dan Treacy: 'I'm sick to death of guitars, I'm through with them. I played last week and thought, what's this round my neck?'Charlotte Zoller
It has been said that Dan Treacy (b. 1960) is the TV Personalities in the same way that Mark E Smith is The Fall. Certainly he has been the sole consistent member since they appeared in 1978 with the single "14th Floor" and subsequent cult hit "Part Time Punks".
It has been said that Dan Treacy (b. 1960) is the TV Personalities in the same way that Mark E Smith is The Fall. Certainly he has been the sole consistent member since they appeared in 1978 with the single "14th Floor" and subsequent cult hit "Part Time Punks". The early Eighties incarnation of the band, which included "Slaughter" Joe Foster and Ed Ball (later of The Times) has a claim to laying down the blueprint for British indie.
