NJ in the Chinese rocket danger zone. Where will it land?

The massive chunk of Chinese rocket expected to crash on the Earth's surface early Sunday morning could reenter the atmosphere directly over New Jersey.
According to early Saturday estimates from space agencies in the United States and Europe, the path of the Long March 5B rocket body shows potential for reentry over the Garden State's southern tip as it returns from outer space.
Launched on April 29 from China, the rocket body reached orbital velocity and has since been in an uncontrolled elliptical orbit of the Earth, read a statement from The Aerospace Corporation.
The federally funded research and development center based in California predicted Saturday that the rocket had a chance to breach the atmosphere over a large swath of populated areas Saturday night or Sunday morning, but is most likely to arrive over the Atlantic Ocean west of Portugal. The zone for falling debris remains unknown but experts warn areas over the projected path are at some risk.

GOP Slavery Apologists Keep Proving Why We Need The 1619 Project

Stephen RobinsonMay 03, 2021 02:39 PM
GOP Louisiana state Rep. Ray Garofalo
Last week, Louisiana GOP state Rep. Ray Garofalo walked into a rake while arguing for his own bill banning critical race theory from all levels of public education. He said, "If you are having a discussion on whatever the case may be, on slavery, then you can talk about everything dealing with slavery: the good, the bad, the ugly." But we're not discussing Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. There was nothing “good" about slavery.
Republican state Rep. Stephanie Hilferty interrupted Garofalo to clarify that slavery was exclusively bad and ugly. This somehow proved controversial, and Citizens for a New Louisiana quickly labeled Hilferty a “RINO," because apparently there's no room in the GOP big tent for an unambiguously anti-slavery position. Citizens for a New Louisiana claimed Hilferty, appearing on CNN, twisted Garofalo's words and tried to “cancel" him (insert eye roll emoji here).

All Black Men Matter in America: Understanding Gender, Identity and Ideas About Masculinity

April 30, 2021
Share This:
“Understanding and unpacking gender, identity, gender expression, gender roles and masculinities are critical and relevant to all the work we do … especially as educators,” said Vincent Harris, director of Cal State Fullerton’s Male Success Initiative program.
“Consider James Baldwin (a gay Black novelist, poet and activist), Tony McDade (a Black transgender man who was shot by police last summer), Ahmaud Arbery (a Black man shot in Georgia while he was out jogging). How are we seeing Black men? Some Black men such as Bayard Rustin (a leader in civil rights, nonviolence and gay rights) and Billy Strayhorn (Duke Ellington’s composer) did identify as queer or gay. How did their voices give action to the movement?

A nonprofit group founded by allies of President Joe Biden is launching a voting rights initiative, the latest sign that the White House views the issue as a key part of Biden’s early agenda.
Building Back Together said its voting rights program would be led by Bob Bauer, who advised Biden’s presidential campaign and was White House counsel during the Obama administration.

Atlanta HBCUs Require Students and Faculty to get Vaccines to be On Campus

Black Enterprise
Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College are among the many Atlanta universities this upcoming fall semester that will require students, faculty members, and staff to be vaccinated for COVID-19.
On April 19, at the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC), where all the schools received representation, made the announcement that employees and students need to be vaccinated, Atlanta’s WAGA-TV reported.
Those who need two or more shots need to verify that they have completed their vaccination. One-shot vaccine recipients only need to show that they got their single-dose vaccine.
“As AUCC member institutions plan for summer programming and the fall semester, using the latest scientific data to implement vaccination protocols is the next step in keeping our community safe,” a collective statement from the leaders of the AUCC members said. “Vaccination of our community members is critical to continue meeting our highest priority—maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our constituents.”

Learning from Lincoln

Learning from Lincoln
Sean Wilentz is a historian of the leftist persuasion and also a principled opponent of the New York Times’s
1619 Project errors, distortions, and lies (my word, not his), now adopted as the orthodoxy of the Democratic Party. The problem is “A matter of facts,” he wrote in The Atlantic. He also signed off on the letter prominent historians sent to the Times challenging the project as ideological rather than historical.
Coincidentally with my own comments this week on Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, Professor Wilentz takes up Lincoln’s case in his New York Review of Books review “Lincoln’s rowdy America” in NYRB’s April 29 issue. Wilentz review David Reynolds’s new book,
