from coast to coast, the violence has metastasized to new york to portland, denver, chicago and with a number of major cities still under siege, president trump to expand his use of federal agents to help quell the violence. >> we are not going to let new york and chicago, detroit, baltimore and all of these that have led to a mass, we will not let this happen in our country. >> in chicago at the situation is especially direct. the windy city by violence with on full display friday as an organized group attack injured dozens of chicago police officers. all in a week and that's all 41 shooting incidents, 63 victims, and 12 murders. but instead of welcoming help, some cities are asking the feds to out. new york city mayor bill de blasio tweeted "we've seen the police grading in portland and we fall let it happen here. if oaklands police department said in a statement they had not requested federal assistant to address crowd management within the city. even chicago's mayor sounded skeptical. >> we don't need federal agents without insignia taking people off of the streets and holding them i think unlawfully. >> also today the president announced the presumption of regular coronavirus briefings beginning tomorrow. to mark the first time since april that the president himself will take part. that revival, by the way a sharp rise in covid-19 cases across the nation with after fireworks were launched at the building. the number three democrat in the house comparing federal officers there to. >> this attorney general, doing everything they possibly can to impose gestapo activities in local communities. >> chief breaking news correspondent trace gallagher has the latest from the west coast. >> must two months running the scene of violent protest and the end does not appear in the air. this weekend, portland police with a right-wing demonstrators broke through the front door of the portland police association building and started a fire inside. they also taunted the police and penalized the police cars. but on sunday when protesters started climbing and pulling down the fence, the federal courthouse in downtown portland, and dispersed with tear gas by federal law enforcement agents, the portland mayor turned the tables. immediately blaming months of unrest on president trump. here is the mayor followed by the president, watch. >> the president has a complete misunderstanding of cause and effect. what is happening here, we have dozens if not hundreds of federal troops descending upon our city. what they are doing is they are sharply escalating the situation. their presence here is actually leading to more violence and more vandalism. >> they were ripping count for 51 days, ripping down that city, destroying the city, polluting it. the level of corruption and what was going on there was incredible and the governor said we don't need help. >> while many legal analysts say the protest should be handled by portland authorities are not federal agents, acting homeland security secretary chad what says he's not asking permission. >> don't need invitations by the state. the state mayors or state governors to do our job. we will do that threatening manner of those participating in nonviolent protest. while we are fortunate this situation did not escalate into deadly force, this type of conduct is unacceptable in st. louis." tucker carlson tonight, he has no fan of gardeners conduct either. speak with the circuit attorney has apparently decided her job as a prosecutor isn't to keep us safe from criminals, but to keep the criminal say from us. it is a bizarre upside down oral. i've been a little irritated by this process today. i'm flat out upset and this is outrageous. >> shannon: tonight missouri attorney general getting involved in the case and a joins us live, mr. attorney general, good to have you but that's. >> good to be here. okay, you are the top law enforcement officer and enforcer in missouri. what can you do involving a former prosecutor, and there is a low and waving a gun in a threatening manner. why did you get involved? >> the truth of the matter is this is nothing by political prosecution by kim gardner. the right to self-defense is deeply rooted in our constitution. it is a fundamental right and predates her constitution. the founders knew how important it was. it is a god-given right and it can't be taken away. it is in the label. it is in the constitution, the second amendment, the missouri constitution and the statues. it has a doctor and like a lot of other states but missouri is very expensive. broad with individuals to protect their lives and family members, their homes and their property. it is important to recognize this was on a private street. at a time there were calls to deep on the streets, and skyrocketing crime rates including in missouri and in st. louis, we have a prosecutor targeting individuals for exercising their fundamental rights under the second amendment and so when enough is enough. the law is very clear. it is time as chief law enforcement officer to step in. we are entering the case and seeking to have this case dismissed. i'm not just for mccloskeys but for every missourian threatened by a prosecutor to exercise for their fundamental right to self-defense. >> shannon: okay, let's talk about the two different sides rapping on twitter. one of the polices has become sort of a public square. we have a congressman come with a protesters reference these charges broke down an iron gate and threaten the mccloskeys on private property. they were not people with political style of mist care -- just as i suspected, mccloskeys, for st. louis before and can point at blm protesters were indeed breaking the law, felony, unlawful use of a weapon. many people argue the couple was within their rights. you all were dead wrong and enjoy the seat of shame. why is this particular moment, those images, why are they so divisive in the country so split over looking at the same thing and seeing it two different ways? >> my focus is on the law. the law a mystery is very the lr family. if the accounts are true, people were yelling that they were going to kill them, kill their dog, burn their house down. under missouri law and by the way this is a private streets of private property. you have a right to defend your castle, your home and the lives of your family. it's really not a close call here. so this is a politically motivated prosecution by a prosecutor who is not interested in prosecuting violent crumb and has a dismal record, skyrocketing murder rate in st. louis, 136 murders already this year in st. louis, calls to defund the police, and you know. this prosecutor is spending valuable resources only 20% of the murders using valuable resources to prosecute people who are exercising a fundamental right for their second amendment rights. it is wrong and as an attorney general i'm getting involved to say the case to be dismissed. >> shannon: i want to make sure i ask you about this idea of federal authority coming to state or city. one who signed on to a letter, the mayor's letter to a number of congressional leaders saying we want the president investigating. the administration shows a shocking disregard for the legitimate use of u.s. military and federal resources. we are a nation of laws. reaction from you mr. attorney general. >> we are a nation of laws and those laws need to be abided by. we will stand up for the rule of law. kansas city has a record-breaking murder rate right now, as i mentioned, st. louis too. this is all hands on deck. we have a unique relationship with missouri's office, attorney general's office. and hopefully that can be extended further to crack down on violent crime. the victims deserve this. there were too many mothers being lost, fathers being lost in too many children being lost. this is not a partisan issue but about public safety we need to come together on that. >> shannon: mr. attorney general from missouri, eric schmidt, thank you for your time tonight. >> good to be with you. >> shannon: breaking tonight, the new mexico supreme court eric garcetti is conceding they reopened the city too quickly. now he's warning and other stay-at-home order could be on the way, shutting down l.a. once again. >> i think we are on the brink of that. there is no control on who opens up and who doesn't at the state or county level. the mayor saying to remain vigilant where over 202,000 covid-19 patients hospitalized. the most since the pandemic started. meanwhile three churches filed a lawsuit against california governor gavin newsom claiming a ban on singing and places of worship to stop the spread of coronavirus violates their first amendment rights. other churches are upset over the governor's ban on indoor church services and 30 counties. >> the u.s. constitution and the first amendment the first of the first amendment, the first of the bill of rights is free exercise of religion. that is an inviolable right. inviolable means there are no exceptions to this. no exceptions whatsoever! so our constitutional rights are being violated. imported covid-19 cases continue to search where hospitals and 14 counties have run out of icu beds. >> the hospitals are overwhelmed and i see you over capacity. 10,500 new covid
