Flow. that s what s happening. there s not access to capital. some of it is available. a lot of small business owners don t have the assets they are capable of lending them on. i m a founder of a small community bank. we raised 30 million bucks to open the bank. we are lending money to people that can repay the debt. tell me, access to capital. the president or romney, who is going to make it better? no question. obama sees the big picture. new techniques have to be created. the banks have strict guidelines. i come from a risk-driven perspective. as an angel investor, we put tons of money to work. why would you not expect money back? we understand the risk.
Things that are stopping businesses from hiring. number one, certainty in the market. people are unsure about what kind of regulations are going to be out there, what kind of risk they re going to have to take. second, access to capital. after the barney frank, dodd-frank legislation passed it has been harder for businesses to get access to capital. talk to any employer in the country, they say capital formation is very difficult. this bill goes through chapter and verse. goes through capital formation. makes it easy for businesses to get capital by easing regulations on local community banks that do lending. 390 congressman out of 435 voted for the bill. it is common sense and makes sense. gregg: why did nancy pelosi sort of dismiss it? she called it a little package. she didn t think there was much to it. why? well, obviously she is trying to get back in the majority. and her view of how to turn the economy around is
$100,000 should go to small businesses. that s not happening. another federal law says 5% of government contracts should go to minority-owned companies. the thing that concerns me the most is president obama s plan to combine the commerce department to me that s the same as closing the small business administration. i m concerned about that. the last thing is i thought the whole purpose of tarp, i saw president bush talking about passing tarp to increase access to capital for small businesses. the truth is since that was passed, access to capital has dropped. i think president obama and congress needs to be something to address that. let s go fwook the graphic with the increase in bank bonuses and decline in lending. when we talk about the lack of investment and the distorted flow of capital in america, nothing is more instructive to that than the banking system in
look at the groupen story, they ve come out of the nowhere, it won t happen to everybody, but what do you make of that? i m from chicago, so groupen is our darling. they have done a phenomenal job in a very short period of time of growing the business and creating a lot of jobs. the differentiator, access to capital. they have great deep pockets, so they re ability to invest, and they re spending tons and tons of cash, so that really is the differentiator. if we re going to break it down to something, it s show me the money. one of the things i wanted to ask you about, the unique america system i think is a huge barrier. folks who may have a great idea, but maybe they have some preexisting condition themselves, they have job lock. they can t afford to give up
