patrol there. matt finn live in eagle pass to tell us how it's going. i guess is this day one or day two, matt? good morning. >> essentially day two. this all started developing yesterday, bill. it is a rather remarkable situation. be mind me right now is shelby park that you were referring to. viewers may recognize it. our cameras have been here for two years now showing you the mass illegal immigration that happens right here in this park. you might recall even just a few weeks ago there was a huge surge of migrants who crossed right here. now under governor abbott's emergency declaration the texas national guard has seized control of this park and some surrounding land along the river, put up fencing and razor wire, and kicked out federal border patrol agents arguing it is the biden administration that has perpetuated illegal crossings so texas is going to control this land from here on out. our crews have seen what hops to

the numbers don't belie that, but when there is a disconnect, for you guys when you gather for your meetings and decide the course of interest rates, are you puzzled by that? and that americans aren't feeling it? many are still buying a lot of stuff. the jobs are still strong and all of that. but there is a significant delay going on here, the likes of which i haven't seen when we usually had a good spate of numbers, that they are not buying it. does that work into the fed? does that work into the feds thinking, seeing how the market reacts to that? >> a bit on all of those. i think you are right. you haven't seen and i haven't seen a divergence between kind of the numbers and the people's sentiments about the economy this big in really, maybe forever, but in a long time. that said, as you know, the federal reserve act gives the fed a job, which is a dual mandate that we have to look at the actual numbers. we've got to maximize employment
of living increases? and why is it they are saying senior citizens can no longer afford to live in florida. so that is the first thing i will say. we don't need him doing that to our country. when it comes to the gas tax, when we eliminate that federal tax, the money is collected in the states and they send it to the feds. the feds attach a lot of strings to it and send it back. 75% comes from the state. 25% comes from the federal government. what they do when they add those strings is they pay for a lot of things that are not roads. green spaces, sidewalks, all of those things, but they attach strings. i want that money to stay in the states. i want the states to be able to decide how to spend it. i don't want washington bureaucrats deciding what we need for scenery and green space and all those other things. i want every state, including the state of iowa, to make the decisions on how they spend their road spending, instead of federal government. >> [applause] >> governor desantis, your response? >> you kind of admitted that she did try to raise the gas tax. she's on video saying this, i know she will say she never said. this >> you sniffed, it took a
