moved south of the i-4 corridor, because of freezes that we had in the late 80s and 90s. so that freeze line really shouldn't be damaging to many of the crops, hopefully, i'm sure it will be a close call, and out there with the heaters in the field, that they do sometimes, and then as we head through early next week, pretty frigid in chicago, even after the holiday weekend. >> bill, thank you. it is only december. >> what's january going to have in store? >> i don't want to think about it. let's get through this holiday season first. i want to bring back nbc's reporter at reagan national airport. and we've seen more than 4,000 flights canceled, and another 5,000 dlad, that is not good news for people making it home for the holidays and it continues to rise. >> that's right, the board yesterday, the departure board was looking significantly better than today. and that is because that arctic blast is taking hold, and a lot of the major cities across the country have had ground stops

watch in cape cod. it's not going to be pretty there. this morning wind chills are 4 in boston, 16 in d.c. yesterday was chilly, but it's a lot worse today than it was on sunday. it's cold from all of the northern half of the country. if you're colored in, that's where the freeze line is. look at international falls, minus 23. it's almost april and it's negative 23. that's ridiculous. as far as this next storm, it will track down quickly and blow up into a huge nor'easter. it will be a big huge storm, huge waves, everything. most of the snow is going to be off the coast. cape cod will get hit a little bit. doesn't look like boston should get too bad. maybe our friends in maine, too. a lot of the big cities in the northeast will avoid anything huge or significant. may get a little nuisance type snow, an inch or two, but that will be about it. as far as the forecast goes for this monday, very cold in the northeast and then we'll watch that storm coming on tuesday. looks like a glancing blow i like to say. >> speaking of glancing blows.

over yet. this is just the first wave. we're going to be more develop by the end of the weekend. still a snowy situation in cincinnati. this is pushing into the northeast, luckily that freeze line, though, is getting very skinny. so it's mainly either snow on rain, still seeing some icy spots, but nothing like we've been seeing over the past 24 hours. we still have a lot of watches and warnings in effect as far as the snow and the ice go across portion of the north, but very, very cold temperatures. we have temperatures well below freezing in portions of the north, as you head down to the south, a lot of places in the 20s and low 30s. so what's already on the ground is expected to stay there. it's not going to be melting any time soon. a lot of it will refreeze as well. this will continue to push out. we'll have a bit of a break on saturday, but then look what comes up by sunday. we're looking at more possible

des moines, you could see two to five inches of snowfall. so what is going on? it's the jet stream that brought that cold air in place as far south as parts of texas. i'll show you on the radar, mason city and omaha, you can see where the snow s the freeze line and thunderstorms towards the south will continue to see this pattern today and even through tomorrow. and you can see wisconsin and down towards texas and they're dealing with a little bit of light snow. now as we go through today, tomorrow, you can see the heaviest snowfall is to the north. again, i think jim spellman is tracking the snow through parts of minnesota. and then snow tries to work into kansas city, even parts of oklahoma late tonight. now it's not just snow. we're also talking about very heavy rainfall right along the northern gulf coast including parts of florida. we've seen in some parts, get this, 6 to 15 inches of rainfall just since wednesday morning. and that's why we have all these flood warnings and watches in

proper footwear. thank you so much for that. >> he's finally wearing a hat, which is good. conditions have to be just right for a storm to dump significant snow. jennifer delgado live in the cnn weather center, what can we expect? it does say may 1st on the calendar. >> it's may day. conditions do have to be right, and they are. we are going to see snow piling up today, tomorrow, even into friday. look at the radar for denver. as jim just said, they're starting to get the snow working. yes, it's coming down in cheyenne, but as we look to the north, we're still looking to heavy rain. that is going to be changing over to snow as well. what's helped track this for you, as we start this, we're looking at winter storm warnings in place over the next 24 hours. totals going to be impressive in parts. parts of colorado, denver, cheyenne, we could see 6 to 12 inches of snowfall. for areas like nebraska, you're going to be looking like snow. can you tell where the freeze line is, where the snow is going

but it's not just colorado. we're talking about cheyenne, as well as into nebraska, even iowa. they're going to see some snow. and the moisture you're seeing on the radar right now, that is going to be changing over to snow. and that means areas like minneapolis, you're going to be picking up snowfall. we're getting to the totals. we start off right now across nebraska and colorado, as well as wyoming. 6 to 12 inches in some parts. for denver, we're saying 4 to 7. as we move into the upper midwest, 6 to 9 for minneapolis. and for areas in the western part of wisconsin, 3 to 6 inches of snowfall. by about midnight tonight all that snow is going to be done for areas like denver, but of course, as i said, up towards the northeast, and as it does, we're still talking potentially snow coming down through friday morning on the backside of that low, affecting parts of minnesota. but want to point out to you, look where that freeze line is, so again, minneapolis we're expecting snow but for areas to the north as well as to the south, they are going to be looking at some rain. on a wider view today, severe storms across the midwest.

democrat joins us next. but first, this is a contractual obligation on our part. we have to go with bill karins for a check on his realforecast. >> warm it up. >> let's try it. >> good morning, everyone, the southern half of the country, the flowers are in bloom, the pollen in the air. and this morning is almost like what happens in the fall. it's like a killing freeze in some spots. it's not good for the flower buds. atlanta's at 32, dallas is at 31. the freeze line went all the way down this morning into northern louisiana and even through portions of mississippi and alabama. hopefully we didn't do too much damage out there to the beautiful buds before the beautiful spring weather arrives later on this week. the weather pattern for today, cold and dreary up to the great lakes, snow showers for many areas of kentucky, west virginia and through southern ohio. and this is how it's going to go this week. it's a slow improvement each and every day. by the time we get to easter sunday, still cool from the northern plains, great lakes
