families are already returning home and the fighting is likely to continue for some time. we've seen with those heights civilian casualties that the city is still far from safe. it's also interesting to note the iraqi government said that the airstrikes killed over a hundred militants who are trying to cross from iraq into syria and amongst those's claims there was a senior isis commander who was killed. those claims yet to be verified. julie: thank you. kelly: there is a new security threat to our nation's airports. laptop bombs. they are now banning electronic devices on flights from ten airports in eight muslim majority nations. u.s. intelligence source said isis and other groups can actually slip laptop bombs past skinners. that commercial aviation continues to be a target for terrorist groups. julie: stargazers gearing up
shura. you have around mosul you have forces that have eyes on mosul, others are 20, 30, kilometers away. we had american officials on friday saying the iraqis would pause on some fronts to allow the other units to catch up to consolidate around mosul. you had iraqi commanders saying, that's not true. the u.s. comments were, quote unquote, inaccurate. meanwhile, tough popular mobilization units, shiite para militaries announcing they are entering the fight, launching operations west of mosul, putting thousands more fighters into this battle. in one area which is important. it's an area that isis has controlled and has been able to cross back and forth from iraq into syria and vice versa. syria, of course, where they have their de facto capitol. >> michael, we had seen some video earlier, i don't know if
accomplished with the support of other nations and, if so which countries? >> clearly iraq. the operation was based out of northern iraq. which is the closest point that you'd have to stage. so the iraqi government clearly was cognizant and provided not only approval i would guarantee that they provided layers of support, as well that would allow the special operators to stage. the special operators have to come into country. if they are in country, they're totally covert as barbara described. they would be in very very briefly and have to stage and go through some immediate final rehearsals rehearsals. all that would have to be done with the support and the understanding and the support of the host nation. the iraqi government got behind this and supported it completely. we did nothing to try to clear the air space or try to clear anything with the government of syria. we took full advantage created a corridor went from iraq into syria and hit the target and came back out as quickly as possible. >> cnn military analyst
