she was abducted the same day the u.s. state department issued a new travel advisory in haiti ordering the departure of all non-emergency government personnel. due to, quote, kidnapping, crime, civil unrest and poor healthcare infrastructure. state department spokesperson matthew miller would not say if the travel advisory and dorsenville's abduction are related. >> we are aware of two reports two us citizens were kidnapped in haiti. obviously the safety and security of american citizens oversays is our highest prior to. we are in contact the haitian short and will work with them and the u.s. government and partners but because it's an ongoing law enforcement investigation there's not much more detail i can offer. >> reporter: the agency requested no one contact the agency for comment. no word from the state department or haiti official while she was targeted or if random was demanded. trace. >> trace: lauren thank you, bring in former state department
>> such a resilient people. >> reporter: alex in her own words saying how much her work in haiti means to her. now her family and friends are asking for prayers and mercy and the safe return of this nurse from new hampshire and her child. they were snatched thursday from the grounds of the faith-based charity el roy near the haitian capital port-au-prince. her husband san droe is the director. a statement from the charity reads, our team at el roy haiti is grateful for the outpouring of prayers, care and support for our colleague. we continue to work with our partners and trusted relationships to secure their safe return. the u.s. state department says they're aware of the abductions and doing all it can to assist. >> we're in regular contact with the haitian authorities and will continue to work with them and our u.s. government. >> haitian police and government authorities have not responded to cnn inquiries about the kidnappings. but on the same day the u.s.

haitian children as part of a christian humanitarian relief organization before she and her daughter were kidnapped according to the group. >> at first i didn't think there would be much of a need there, but when i got there there were so many cases. >> reporter: the nonprofit, el roi haiti, confirming the two were taken thursday from their campus just outside of port-au-prince. el roi adding "alix is a deeply compassionate and loving person who considers haiti her home and the haitian people her friends and family." the kidnapping gripping the attention of the u.s. state department, the agency writing, "we are in regular contact with haitian authorities and will continue to work with them and our u.s. government interagency partners." and any effort to secure their release or return could prove challenging. local officials estimate 80% of port-au-prince is controlled by rival gangs. and linsey, alix dorsainvil's kidnapping joins a list of hundreds of abe deductions in haiti in recent years. amid that growing and relentless violence there the u.s. state department urging americans not to travel to haiti and asking
