National curling team satisfied with world championships experience

The Estonian women s national curling team returned to Estonia from a world championships tournament held in Canada recently and while they finished the tournament with just a single victory and 14th place, the debuting national team felt satisfied with their performance against the world s best.
The curling national team returned to Estonia from its world championships debut in Canada on Sunday. They achieved one victory, over Germany, but battled hard against the best national teams of the world.
We were actually rather satisfied with the tournament, mostly because we were able to play very well against the best and stay in the matches. While final scores showed that matches were perhaps more one-sided in the end, the actual contents of the matches were good and we forced our opponents into making good throws, national team captain Marie Turmann told ERR.

'He hurt our Constitution, our country and our party': Mitt Romney booed at Utah GOP convention — RT USA News

Follow RT on
Mitt Romney made headlines in recent years as one of former President Donald Trump’s most vocal Republican critics. Now though, he’s being censured by his own party and booed off stage in his home state.
An opponent of Trump’s since 2016, Sen. Romney (R-Utah) rarely missed a chance to publicly disagree with the president, whether by marching with Black Lives Matter protesters last year or by crossing party lines twice to vote for Trump’s impeachment.
Though Trump is out of office, he remains Republican voters’ first choice for the presidential nomination in 2024, and Romney is paying a price for his refusal to commit to Team Trump.

A Utah Republican move toward the political right could have a profound long-term effect on the state's political landscape.

| Updated: 4:35 p.m.
The reception Republican delegates gave Gov. Spencer Cox at Utah’s GOP convention earlier this month was an indication something unexpected could happen.
Cox was booed as he took the stage to speak. The delegates who heckled him were the same delegates who just a year ago gave him a convincing convention win over six other Republicans running for governor.
The same delegates who heckled Cox also booed Sen. Mitt Romney for having the temerity to stand up to former President Donald Trump.
They then slapped down members of the Utah Republican establishment, rejecting their preferred slate of candidates for the party leadership elections and cleaning house at GOP headquarters.

Notre Dame's 'Baby Gronk' Michael Mayer has grown up in a hurry

Michael Ainsworth/AP
SOUTH BEND, Ind. Listening to Michael Mayer speak, it’s easy to forget he’s still in his freshman year at Notre Dame.
The former four-star recruit out of Covington, Kentucky, where he was the state’s Mr. Football as a two-way menace and 5A state champion, Mayer quickly picked up a classic nickname from his Irish teammates: Baby Gronk.
As in Rob Gronkowski, the NFL’s ultimate matchup nightmare at tight end. They even share the same jersey number (87).
Coming off a 42-catch debut season in which he tied for the team lead in receptions and made multiple freshman All-America teams, Mayer was asked recently how long it took him to get comfortable at the college level.

Michelle Quist: Convention delegates gave Utah GOP a black eye

Michelle Quist: Convention delegates gave Utah GOP a black eye
Booing Mitt Romney and refusing to wear masks on private property weren’t good looks for Republicans.
(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) New Utah Republican Party Chairman Carson Jorgensen speaks with the media following his win following the Utah Republican Party’s 2021 Organizing Convention at the Maverik Center in West Valley City on Saturday, May 1, 2021.

Civility is once again front and center in Utah politics. This time, Utah Republican Party delegates gave Utah a national black eye by booing Sen. Mitt Romney during his convention speech at their recent organizing convention. A national black eye because it was covered by the New York Times, CNN and many others in national media.

Dauphine’s, the New Orleans-inspired restaurant from the team behind Salt Line, opens Friday, May 7 in downtown DC with some big names from the Big Easy at the helm. Executive chef Kristen Essig joins Salt Line talent Kyle Bailey in the kitchen; prior to moving to Washington she spent two the past two decades cooking at spots like Emeril’s and running her own Southern restaurant, Coquette. Behind the bar program is partner and native New Orleanian Neal Bodenheimer, the owner of three award-magnet cocktails bars in his hometown: Cure, Cane & Table, and Vals. The challenge for both: how do you take a food and drink culture as rich, storied, and entrenched in place as the one in New Orleans and translate it to a brand new 145-seat restaurant in downtown DC?
