such an extent that these politicians and are running scared. they're afraid of their base. so i personally think it would be great if there would be more people to speak out about donald trump. it's gonna be absolutely necessary to have those people peel off in the general election and vote against him. but the only way this is going to go away is if that party is defeated over and over and over again. no one likes to lose. they have already lost three elections in a row, and if they keep losing the base, the donors, the politicians will begin to get tired of this. so i think there will be a turn of events not in the short term but two, three, maybe even longer down the road. in the meantime we have to hang on to those democratic institutions and make sure the guardrails are in place. >> to that point, ruth, about donald trump losing and the republican party losing, brett hume, a conservative june as journalist and commentator said

that's interesting here is that you've got trump whatever number he is at, and people like to look at polls and political seasons. you've got desantis on half of that, and then half of desantis numbers you have mike pence, who has tried, as you said, he often comes out it demonstrates that you tried to do the right thing and he was a victim of trump. but what's his lane? he gave the conservative christian voter to cover to vote for donald trump the last time around. so they don't need him. >> no, they don't. and trump has done what i call in my book the authoritarian brag. and he did this early. this is when a leader or the wannabe leader comes to financial religious lakes, other types of elites and says, if you give me total loyalty and no one else i will deliver for you. and donald trump to deliver for evangelicals, for orthodox jews, all the fundamentalists. and so they are happy with him.
